It was called Seward's folly in my day.

It would be a great state....if the Feds kept their nose out of it...(Like most states).

So many assets.....

Well, he was Secretary of State under Lincoln. Palin was right to use Lincoln’s name rather than that of an impeached prez. She could also have called him the Governor of New York.

Actually it was Lincoln's Secretary of State. Read your history and you will find that Johnson hands were tied by the Tenure of Office Act. When he tried to fire his Secretary of War, Stanton, he was impeached. The fact that there was no VP and the next in line was totally unacceptable to a majority of Senators led to him surviving by a single vote.

Alaska was purchased when Johnson was President but Seward was definitely Abe's guy.

I think Governor Palin probably did that on purpose as bait for those who like to attack her for getting her facts wrong. As is usually the case (including with Paul Revere), her words were correct as chosen. She's often playful with her wording - both better educated and more fun than Obama or just about any liberal.

Yep. And slimy Andy ranks down there even below the other Johnson. He came within one Profile in Courage of being removed, which is a shame.

But Seward's Folly has turned out rather well, even if it hasn't (but may yet) give us a Candidate.
