The man who oversaw an energy crisis has come out strongly against the Keystone XL pipeline. In a letter with other Nobel laureates, former President Jimmy Carter urged President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry to reject the pipeline, claiming that allowing the project to move forward would worsen climate change.

Energy, in this case oil, is the lifeblood of an economy and a nation. Without it, we go back 100 years.
Canada wants to pump 650,000 B/D into the US. In return, Canada is willing to accept little bits of paper, or more likely, entries in an electronic ledger denominated in US dollars. Electrons cost even less than bits of paper.
Explain to me how this is a bad deal for the USA?
A pipeline east to Churchill, Manitoba would open up Europe and Eastern North America. They would have to assure ice free passage year round to make that work.
