An explosion devastated a busy bus station on the outskirts of the Nigerian capital of Abuja on Monday, April 14, 2014. It was the latest in a series of terrorist attacks on Africa’s most populous nation. No group had claimed credit for the attack as of Monday, but Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan laid the blame at the feet of Boko Haram, the Islamist terrorist group seeking the eradication of Christians and the Islamization of Nigeria.
The blast took place at 6:55 a.m. according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Reuters reported at least 71 dead and 124 injured, but on Tuesday, Punch raised the number dead to 89, including three perpetrators, with 257 injured. And this was not the week’s only attack.
Just days earlier, Boko Haram jihadists killed some 200 in Borno, a northeastern Nigerian state that has seen far more than its share of jihad terrorism. Punch reported that on April 9-10 attacks took place on communities in several towns, as well as on a teachers’ training college and a group of students traveling to their matriculation exams. Boko Haram seemed determined to show that “western education is forbidden.”
Rarer was Monday’s attack on Abuja’s Nyanya Mass Transit Park – demonstrating the terrorists’ brazenness, operating in the country’s capital, as well as the northern and middle state belts to which they have already laid claim. The blast destroyed 16 high-capacity buses and damaged another 24, as well as affecting smaller vehicles, a police spokesman told Reuters. Many of the buses were loaded with commuters, so the attack left a hellish scene of charred bodies, body parts, and twisted metal. In Tuesday’s report, Punch told of an eyewitness who said that the attack was carried out by four insurgents in a Volkswagen Golf.
According to NAN, many of the commuters in this transit point for the satellite communities of the Federal Capital Territory surrounding Abuja were on their way to work and their businesses. But Nigerian attorney and human rights activist Emmanuel Ogebe pointed out that this attack took place on the first day of Holy Week in a country in which Easter is a major holiday.
“Abuja is emptying out as people travel to their home states for the long holiday,” said Ogebe. He believes the bus station was targeted deliberately on the week of Easter. This would be no surprise, as a majority of Islamist attacks in Nigeria target Christians, Christian holidays (holy days), and have occurred at churches and Christian schools and universities.
When President Jonathan visited the scene of the carnage, Reuters said he denounced “the activities of those who are trying to move our country backwards,” mentioning Boko Haram by name. The Nigerian government has not been successful in stopping Boko Haram, nor in assisting those who have been victimized the jihadists.

The State Department has about as much presence in Crimea and the Ukraine. The agency has been AWOL or even MIA in most trouble spots around the world.

If you want to know why Obama and his cronies have turned a blind eye to Muslim Brotherhood violence against Coptic Christians while focusing obsessively on clashes between Rohingya Muslim migrants in Burma and the native Buddhist population, look no further than the Muslim advisers of Obama Inc.
Dalia Moghaed [sic], credited with helping President Obama draft his June 2009 Cairo speech about American relations with the Islamic world, recently downplayed attacks against Egypt’s Coptic Christians on a Facebook page.
Mogahed isn’t the only American Islamist tied to the Obama administration to slam the Copts on social media.
In a Sept. 15 Twitter post, Mohamed Elibiary, a member of the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Advisory Council, accused American Coptic activists of fanning hatred of Islam.
“For >decade since 9/11 attack extremist American Coptic activists have nurtured anti -Islam & anti Muslim sentiments among AM RT wing,” Elibiary wrote.
In earlier tweets, Elibiary attacked American Copts for protesting against how their relatives in Egypt have been treated by the Islamists.
“Good read by @mwhanna1 on need to reform Coptic activism in US including stop promoting Islamophobia,” Elibiary wrote Sept. 14.
Attacking Coptic Christian activists was one of the topics of CAIR’s recent Islamophobia report. What their Islamist pals are doing with bombs and bullets in Egypt to Coptic Christians, the Islamists in the US are doing with words.
Where is the media? The only reason I knew about this was because of a blurb I cam across buried on a website.

A source with knowledge of the Boko Haram Muslim terror attacks on Christians in Nigeria says the violence is being stepped up now because it is Easter week.
In the latest attack in northeast Nigeria, Boko Haram, a group that seeks to establish Islamic law in Nigeria, reportedly kidnapped 200 girls from a school in the Borno state town of Chibok. There is no word if any of the students have been killed.
The kidnapping followed a Tuesday night attack on the Borno state village of Sabun Kasuwa, where the police chief was killed and other casualties were reported.
The nighttime raid of the village followed just one day after the jihadist group set off bombs in two Abuja region bus stations, killing a total of 70 people.
The bus station attacks follow a string of weekend attacks in the northeast which resulted in a three-day casualty count of approximately 270 people.
Emmanuel Ogebe, a managing partner in the U.S.-Nigeria Law Group, said the stepped-up pace is intentional, because Easter is an important holiday in Nigeria, and the attacks are both symbolic and tactical.
“A local partner in Nigeria contacted me that there was a bomb blast around the nation’s capital and over 100 people are feared killed,” he said. “Easter is a huge holiday in Nigeria and a five-day holiday weekend. As with D.C., Abuja is emptying out as people travel to their home states for the long holiday. The targeting of bus stations the week of Easter was therefore quite systematic.”
He said human rights workers are petitioning Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan for help in stopping Boko Haram.
Brent McBurney, the CEO of Advocates International, a coalition of Christian lawyers, agreed that the death and mayhem is meant to disrupt Easter celebrations.
“I am quite certain that the timing of the latest bombing is not far from Mr. Ogebe’s assessment of the situation. Unfortunately, Boko Haram rebels are so intent on their overall campaign, that I fear they will continue apace, regardless of the Christian holidays,” McBurney said.
McBurney believes the fight must be taken directly to the jihadists.
“This is a battle that needs to be fought at every level, spiritually through prayer and fasting, physically, with assistance from the Nigerian government, as well as legally in any way possible,” McBurney said.
Center for Security Policy Vice President Clare Lopez says Boko Haram’s attacks often target holy days for Christians.
“Christian, Jewish, and other denominational holy days, along with commemorations of particular dates from history, have always been important to Islamic jihadists,” Lopez said.
