For 20 years the federal government has fined Cliven Bundy for grazing his cattle on protected land. And for 20 years Bundy has refused to pay. Last month this dance came to an end when the Bureau of Land Management sent Bundy a letter informing him that it intended to impound his trespass cattle that have been roaming on federal property. It closed off hundreds of thousands of acres, and moved to round up Bundys cows.
Protesters challenged the BLM, and Bundys son was arrested for refusing to disperse from the area in question. Bundys cause caught fire on right-wing blogs, egged on by Fox News and conservative outlets like the National Review, which have held the confiscation as a dangerous intrusion on private property rights, despite Bundys lawbreaking. Defending his decision, the rancher told one right-wing radio host that hes ready to take steps beyond refusing to pay:
I told you that I did the legal thing and the political thing and the media thing and it seems like it's down to we the people if we're going to get it done. You know the things like militias. You know, I haven't called no militia or anything like that, but hey, it looks like that's where we're at.
To that end, hundreds of people from outside Nevadaincluding militia armed with rifles and ammunitionhave joined his protests, going as far as to set up camp and confront federal officials with brandished weapons. The federal government blinked, and the BLM announced an abrupt end to its cattle roundup, hoping to avoid violence and further confrontations.
Finally, I cant help but wonder how conservatives would react if these were black farmersor black anyonedefending their land against federal officials. Would Fox News applaud black militiamen aiming their guns at white bureaucrats?

See 40...That black group had already murdered a cop and shot up a bunch of innocent by-standers prior to the raid burn down a few years later.
This cannot be compared to the Bundy events in any way.
That’s not the right question. It should be: “What if Bundy Ranch Were Harboring Illegal Immigrants”?
What if Bundy Ranch was Brokeback Ranch?
WE’d have to....Oh best go to bed.

If they were Black their grazing fees would be waived.
It’s kinda hard to hide or manufacture dead cops and wounded innocent bystanders...It’s happened...
Some things the government can’t cover up...Like what occurred at the Bundy event.
Boy who cried wolf. Maybe Move was evil incarnate, but I'm not going to believe it because the government and media said so.
/johnny
“Sometimes commies are right” my asparagus.
Nothing would have happened.
Al Sharpton owes the Fed 1,9 M and has for over 6 years.
You’re not getting it.
That black group ya mentioned already murdered a cop and shot up a bunch of innocent by-standers, prior to the raid burn down a few years later.
This cannot be compared to the Bundy events in any way. Those folks had warrants, many parole violations etc...A bunch went to prison for killing the cop..
The government can’t hide this kind of stuff, or hide a bullet wound in back of the cops head...
They can deceive a lot of people, but they can’t concoct and fabricate dead cops and bystanders with bullet holes in them.
Then we differ on gun ‘control’ on that issue with the bp.
Dang bureaucrats, tain’t a one worth 2 plugged nickels.
Government in the US has lost the Mandate of Heaven, so to speak.
/johnny
Where did they get the dead and wounded bodies?
Did they never exist?
wow...
At first, I thought maybe Slate had a conservative writer.
I thought the article would be about how the government
would not go after a black-owned business like they
went after the Bundy’s.
I don’t care who you are, thatthar’s funny!
If they were black, this intrusion by the government would never have happened. What were the writers of this screed thinking?
I can't speak for Fox News but I would applaud them you stupid, overpaid idiot.
Everyone would be enjoying a bowl of tortoise soup.
