Jeb Bush’s wife, family issues key to 2016

If Jeb Bush decides to run for president, he’ll have to defend his family’s controversial political name.

But more immediate family concerns might keep him from running at all.

Republican donors and operatives are chattering about Bush’s publicity-shy wife, so worried she isn’t on board with a 2016 White House run that they’re urging people in the family’s orbit to make the case.

Columba Bush has long been deeply averse to the spotlight, especially after an embarrassing encounter with U.S. Customs while her husband was still in office.

Donors also wonder whether Bush is willing to subject his family and their personal lives to the inevitable scrutiny that comes with a national campaign. Two of his children have been in the news in past years for arrests linked to drug problems and public intoxication.

So while the buzz picks up around Bush, the donor class’s new questions about old issues are a sign of not only the dynamics of a potential Bush campaign, but of how seriously a key establishment group is taking the idea of a Bush bid.

“The issues have been brought up by the press and others in the past, and the family issues may well be brought out again,” said Al Cardenas, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, who headed the Florida GOP while Bush was governor. “If these matters are brought up, it would hurt him, not politically but personally. He has to make up his mind whether that’s a burden he wants to bear.”

A top Republican bundler with ties to the Bushes described the rising concern among those lobbying Jeb Bush to enter the race that his wife’s opposition will keep him from running.

Politico, politico,

We’re onto you.

We know you want Bush because you KNOW he will not get elected.

Shove it up your collective smelly Obamaholes.

We aren’t buying your story...or Jeb Bush for that matter.

I have a feeling Columba is behind all the “fertile immigrants” and “act of love” nonsense. Expect worse if Jeb is elected.

Two of Jeb’s kids arrested and involved with drugs, but I could have sworn it was only Sarah Palin’s poor parenting that’s been covered to death.

Republicans had better realize that a Bush on the ticket will lose them about 10 million or more conservative voters. I’ll be one of them.

Just as Romney was the only person in America which could have lost to Obama in 2012, Bush is the only person in America which could lose to Hillary in 2016.

Romney because of Romneycare, which nullified all attacks on Obamacare.

And, Bush, because it nullifies the return to the past / washington insider line of attack.

Basically, a Bush vs Hillary election would simply be a referendum on which past presidency was better W Bush or Bill Clintons. And that's a contest Clinton wins every time.

Lets see... Wife is busted smuggling luxury goods to beat the taxes. Son is busted trying to crawl into ex-girlfriend’s window in the wee hours clad only in speedo shorts. Daughter is busted trying to pass fraudulent prescription for narcotics. Not very moral AND not very smart.

How about some ‘acts of love’ for your deeply troubled family Jeb, and leave us the hell alone. Very few of us are as messed up as your household and we are doing just fine without you.

You know the GOP-e is worried when Romney's name is being vetted for a possible 2016 run.

Romney would actually match up much better against Hillary than he did against Obama, but we have so many better choices than him for 2016, Palin and Cruz in particular.

Yeah, the Republicans definitely need the most liberal of the Bushes to be their next presidential candidate.

Its clear to everyone outside of DC that Romney lost because his conservative base stayed home on election day. Running Jeb Bush will have the exact same result, only worse.

Speedo shorts?

Definitely a deal breaker for me. I expect parents to raise their children better than that.

Or how about changing it to Columbo to draw in senior citizen votes? They’ll think Peter Falk is running for office.

If we live long enough, we can see a dynastic marriage between one of Pee’s and one of Chelsea’s kids; the abolition of Republicans and Democrats and their replacement with the Purple People Eaters’ Party.

I believe that Jeb Bush would have been a better president than his brother or his father. He would also be a worse candidate than Mitt Romney, John McCain or Bob Dole.

The Democrat controlled media are rooting for Jeb Bush to be the Republican candidate just like I am rooting for Joe Biden to be the Democrat candidate.

Run Joe, run! Don’t listen to the pundits. It is your turn now!
