Ukrainian armed forces on Tuesday launched a "special operation" against militiamen in the country's Russian speaking east, authorities said, recapturing a military airfield from pro-Moscow separatists.

Gunfire could be heard from the airfield at the town of Kramatorsk after a fighter jet swooped low over the area. Ukrainian troops were seen disembarking from helicopters.

My WAG is that he bleeds out Ukraine and its supporters in the West/USA. I don’t think there would be any “insurgents” unless he authorized it. My guess is that Putin knows there is going to be war directed at him via proxies regardless of his actions, so in the Ukraine is the battlefield of his choosing. Short supply lines, sympathetic populace and a fractured enemy consisting of a gas starved Europe and an America with a president who doesn’t want foreign entanglement.
