I really have to wonder how we survived so long without additional regulation. Well, maybe I don’t. I would be completely happy to go back a 100 or 150 years and deal with the regulations of those days.

It’s a cow. They eat off the ground. Why would we need to sterilize their food ?

"We are working to develop regulations that are responsive to the concerns expressed, practical for businesses, and that also help ensure that food for animals is safe and will not cause injury to animals or humans," the FDA said.

Translation - we have to keep coming up with BS laws to justify our existence -- the consequences of our ham-handed stupidity are YOUR problem, suckas.

Too many taxes.

Too many laws.

“The ranchers get the grain, and the brewers get those leftovers removed from their facilities for free.”

And the government can’t make any money on the deal.

This is one of the stupider rules/laws I’ve seen from the FDA in a while. It’s also a good lesson in how the private sector can sometime makes lemons from lemonade if allowed to figure out a solution. There was a similar scenario back in the 1980’s/90’s between film processing companies and plant food makers. One of the biggest waste products of film processing apparently was an essential compound in plant foods (can’t remember what it was). The plant food companies took the waste off the film producer/processors hands and both industries got a sweet deal.

“We’re trading, giving something of value to each other and working it out.”

And that is something the govt just cannot tolerate.

If this regulation is passed, it will do tremendous damage to the brewing industry. Most brewers actually sell the spent malt to ranchers as a highly nutritious feed. The money pays for the brewing costs while the ranchers save on the cost of feed. It makes for a perfect system. If the government regulators wanted to ruin a perfect system, this would be it.

The chef at a local restaurant uses left over grains from the microbrewery across the street. Spent grain makes for fabulous bread!

OK, no problem. It’s not hazmat, so the brewers can certainly set it out where the garbage is, to throw it away. And it’s established law that once you throw something away, you no longer have any legal claim to it or control over it. That’s why the cops can dig through your trash even without a warrant. So if the farmers happen to come by the day before trash day and pick up some “trash” the brewers left outside, you can’t really do anything to the brewers....so......
