We have to be wise like the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s. They picked their battles by carefully finding the right victim. Bundy’s not that.
He’s in the wrong here, even though he has a lot of cause to be dissatisfied. He is misreading the history and needs to pay up those fees. His big issue is the BLM mismanaging those lands and the bias toward species other than human.
We need to find a broader coalition of people victimized by the federal government and get states behind a movement to defederalize these lands. Move them back to local control and let the states manage them. Ideally, the states get to keep the fees and manage these places better.

From what I have read, it is not just a matter of paying the fees. You also have to agree to limit the number of cattle per acre. And apparently everyone who signed up with the feds eventually went belly up there. So the fee may not be the issue. It is the legal agreement you have to sign.

But I see that as perhaps the major issue. It's like the EPA making some sort of decree and the lawmakers say “well, they made a decision so I guess there is nothing the people can do about it”. The unelected bureaucrats that run these agencies have WAY too much sway and greatly need to be cut down.

BS
This will do just fine. Feds own 50% of all then land west of Colorado.
Thaqt's worth a fight right there.
Victims will rally to that.
Quit being a worry-wort and join the Revolution:)

Hes in the wrong here, even though he has a lot of cause to be dissatisfied. He is misreading the history and needs to pay up those fees. His big issue is the BLM mismanaging those lands and the bias toward species other than human. The original deal with the BLM was that the NUMEROUS ranchers were to pay the BLM fees for managing the range.
This worked well at first, but then the BLM started using the fees to drive the many ranchers out of business, and stopped using the fees to manage the range.
Are you saying you'd hire a kid to mow your lawn and still keep paying him after you caught him REFUSING to mow the lawn, but was instead spray-painting graffiti on your house with paint cans purchased with YOUR money?

While your concern for picking the right battle are valid, remember that "the perfect is the enemy of the good".
There will never be a perfect scenario.... with one exception. Nearly always you will dance with the one who brung you.
The single exception? There's a great exchange from James Clavell's Shogun that illustrates it:
"There are no mitigating circumstances when it comes to treason against one's sovereign lord."
"Unless you win."
That's the only exception.
