REALLY???
First, lets look at ALL the facts.
There were 5 cars that slowed down.
ALL of them ahead of him.
The one on the right, moved to the right hand turn lane and slowed to make the turn.
That leaves 4 on the left hand side.
The front 2 were in the 2 lanes left of the driver about 100 yds ahead, followed by the next two, in both of the left hand lanes about 50 yds ahead.
These 4 vehicles block a substantial field of view.
Next, watch the time stamp.
At 15:48:18, the 2 lead, left hand vehicles brake, in unison, which in turn causes the vehicles directly behind them to brake. AT THAT VERY MOMENT a silver car appears, that was ahead of the foremost left hand car.
WHY did he appear?
Because the 2 cars behind him immediately slowed.
Why didn’t he slow?
1-suggests he didn’t expect the van to turn.
2-the van turned abruptly.
From the time the forward vehicles hit their brakes, to the time the van appears from in front of them is about 1.5 seconds.
Watch where they were. Their front ends were about 20’ in front of the light pole by the right hand turn lane. Look how fast they stopped, in distance and time. They had more warning, being mini vans, higher up with only one vehicle immediately ahead of them, being a lower car. Meaning they had a clear field of view of the oncoming van for at least A FEW SECONDS , before applying the brakes RAPIDLY.
The driver had just over 1 second from the time the van APPEARED
until IMPACT.
I watched this thing repeatedly. The first instance of seeing flashing lights (which I was looking for) was at 15:48:14.
That means, the left hand drivers, who were 100 yds ahead, saw them at least at that time if not 1-2 seconds sooner.
And yet, they didn’t brake until 4 seconds later. Coming to a stop in about 1 second. (meaning they slowed quickly) (and yet the vehicle ahead of them didn’t slow)
If the hidden leading vehicle didn’t slow, but the next 2 did. There was just over 3 seconds from the time the leading silver car came into view of the camera, from behind the field of view of the minivans, to impact.
3 SECONDS...
meaning the driver of the van didn’t allow for traffic to clear.
Look again
The sign was both a ‘no U turn’ and a ‘no left turn’. 2 arrows are on the sign.
My back would get more and more sore every time I watched the video. I would be looking for the sleaziest ambulance chaser lawyer. Think Jackie Chiles on Seinfeld.
For the record, I was recently in an accident where the other person was at fault. I did NOT get an ambulance chaser lawyer or any lawyer for that matter!!!
Ever notice how the USA is getting more and more like the freaking USSR ALL THE TIME...?

9. Have to use private traffic cams (insurance scams, lying insane cops)
I agree that not paying attention to the light being green is not a good strategy.
Also, that intersection was posted: no left turns allowed! The left turn was illegal to begin with.
but the judge would believe the uniform despite the testimony.
