Unconfirmed report says Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 black box has been found

THERE are unconfirmed reports that the black box flight recorder from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been found.

Perth radio station 6PR tweeted the report, citing aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is in China, is giving a pre-planned press conference at 2pm AEST.

Also, CNN was doing this more subtly an hour ago in their fit of pique when the rumour, unconnected to Abbott, turned out to be untrue. The Australian who stuck up for Abbott was dissed.

Labor supporters do, yes. Not all of them, but a lot of them. For the last five or so years, while Labor was in government and Tony Abbott was Leader of the Opposition, the Labor Party, and some of its fellow travellers (like a group called GetUp! which basically started as an offshoot of MoveOn, in the US) have deliberately presented an idea over and over and over and over again, that Tony Abbott is stupid, and somehow dangerous. Unfortunately, repeat it ad nauseum often enough, and a lot of people come to continue to repeat it.

And because he is a genuine conservative, who values Australia's connections with American conservatism, it doesn't surprise me that the American left are getting in on the act as well.

It has nothing to do with facts - he's an Oxford educated Rhodes Scolar, who before that was educated at the University of Sydney (one of Australia's top three universities according to most assessments) and before that attended one of the two top Catholic boys schools in the country (run by the Jesuits - I teach at its brother school in Melbourne, which is the other contender for that top two position). He's a highly educated, highly intelligent man - but the left wing media like to caricature him, and were willing participants in Labor's desperate attempts to cling onto power by painting him negatively.

That’s what somebody told me, at any rate.

It would seem to me that it should be viable to create a black box that can detach itself from the plane, in the event of a water landing, and have it float to be picked up.

For the amount of money that was spent trying to find this plane they probably could retro-fitted half the planes in the world with such a design.

IF they find a black box (huge if), then they’ll find a plane (or whats left of it) around it. Are you suggesting they will plant a whole plane there too?

Maybe it's just a "noisemaker" making beeps on the right frequency.

BTW, Malaysia just implied they will be in control of the black box investigation... I hope they let Aussies or US or Uk etc work them.

Perhaps the 5th ping is related to a piece of cargo which was being tracked by a certain government. What do you do with a nuke that must be called back? You clandestinely attach a pinger to it to be able to track it were it to get into the wrong hands, and find it to reclaim it.
