Run Jeb, Run!

The GOP will never become unified until is decides what it believes. Bush should run if only to force that debate over what Republicans really stand for. Part of the reason Reagan won in 1980 was the field against him was divided. The establishment favored Ambassador Bush or John Connolly or Bob Dole or Howard Baker but Reagan forced the debate and moved the party to the right, where much of it is today.

In 2016 the right of center vote will be divided among Paul, Ted Cruz, and others, just as the conservative vote was divided in 2012, allowing the highbrow Mitt Romney to win the nomination.

If an outsider wins the nomination, establishmentarians can be counted on to hold their noses and be supportive, if only to maintain their proximity to power. But if an insider like Romney wins, it will be interesting to see if they can convince the Tea Party to stick around, as Mitt failed to do in 2012. Failing that, we could see the death of the modern, national GOP. And possibly the eradication of Reaganism as a governing philosophy.

Or, if Reaganism prevails again, as it did in 1980, 84, 88, 94 and 2006, we could see the departure of the neocons from the GOP, to go back to their natural home in the Democratic Party, where they were once call Trotskyites. And see Bushism fade as a valid governing philosophy.

This coming fight for 2016 will be the Gotterdammerung for the GOP--the “dusk of the gods”-- as it will determine what it stands for, probably for a long time. No one can predict the outcome, but like Ali versus Frazier--or any contest over power--it will be utterly fascinating to watch.

Q: "What did JFK, Jr. and Penguins have in common?" A: "He also looked good in a tuxedo, nor could he fly."

LMAO!!

I vaguely remember the media's obsession with him. If he'd lived he may have been President instead of Obama.

Yes, Jeb, run to Mexico.

An "act of love."

The Dems wouldn’t have wanted JFK, Jr. Remember when they asked him what he’d do if he got into office (or President) and he said, “Cut taxes.” That’s almost as bad a violation of the high holy sacraments of the party as declaring he’d want to outlaw abortion.

“...Stay away from the drunken, lapsed Catholics; they can’t fly planes or pilot boats too well either...”

They have a hard time driving cars across bridges, too... especially when they’re aspiring young Senators, and they have their young, possibly-pregnant mistress in the car with them.

But hey... that’s ancient history already, right?

“What difference, at this time, does it make?

Mary Jo Kopechne: Involuntary American hero.

I’d take 1,000 more Bushes before 1 more Kennedy. I’d take another Hitler before a Kennedy.

The Swimmer got away with murder - at the very least, involuntary manslaughter.

As for Hitler: nah, I’ll pass on that one. If I could travel back in time and get that bastard glassed and in the crosshairs, that’d be an easy decision to make. Same with Stalin, Mao, Che, etc.,

Ray, will you ever get hep?

It's not "Lewiston" anymore, bunky. It's L-A, i.e., "Lewiston-Auburn."

This has been the style ever since some people got together to elect Baldacci, who was just as completely worthless as Jerry Brown. Jerry does dress better tyhan Baldacci, though. When Baldacci went back to work in Ma's restaurant, GoodWill refused to take back the wardrobe.

All I know is Lewiston, Bates (my wife when there) and The Great Somali Welfare Hunt. I didn’t know they’d changed the name of the town or the governor...

The Somali Border Bandits do get an award for internet research on the best welfare available at any given moment. Ohio and Minnesota found out about'em the hard way, too.

However, in the interest of fairness, it should be pointed out theat these polygamous Muslim baby mutilators and camel-goat-and-cattle-rustlers-slaver-tribes of the Somali Border Regions had serious help.

First: The U.N., who name-changed'em to "refugees."
Then, you have the sexually ambiguous do-gooders in plain clothes of Catholic Charities.
Then, throw in the US Department of State
Don't forget the professional Welfare Establishment and SEIU members
50 or so Left wing NGO's,
and then finally, ex-governor Baldacci who foolishly thought that this was an excellent way to get more federal funds (LOL) into the state with the help of Olympia and Susie (Maine's answer to Barbara Boxer)

Somalis in Maine? What could go wrong?

Hope the distaff side of your unit got out of Bates before it went irretrievably Left Wing. Send the kids to DeVry.

She got out long ago.
Couldn’t stand the winters - spent them in the UK. That tells me something about the winters in Maine - when I was in the UK I remember being warm once - and the folks in he house were mad at me for turning up my radiator!
