Jeb Bush is purposely poking the Republican base in the eye. Why?
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | April 7, 2014 | Chris Cillizza

Jeb Bush's "act of love" comments about immigration over the weekend drew massive headlines with some conservatives criticizing him for his latest apostasy on the issue.

But, it's the lead-up to Bush using the phrase "act of love" that's actually the really important part of what he said. Here it is with our bolding added:

"There are means by which we can control our border better than we have. And there should be penalties for breaking the law. But the way I look at this -- and I'm going to say this, and it'll be on tape and so be it. The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn’t come legally, they come to our country because their families -- the dad who loved their children -- was worried that their children didn’t have food on the table. And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime that there should be a price paid, but it shouldn’t rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."

Jeb Bush knew exactly what he was doing. He knew that calling for a different standards for immigration depending on why the person entered the country would make conservatives' blood boil....

Mr Bush, I want my family to ride in a safer car, and live in a better area. So what I hear you saying is it is an act of love if I go out and commit holdups and break ins to take better care of my family, it is as you say, “an act of love” on my part....

He’s a Bush. What do you expect? The Bushes define establishment Republicans. His dad and brother gave us some of the largest expansions of bureaucracy, police power and the welfare state in history. Why would anyone expect Jeb to be different.

He wants to get nominated and use the Hispanic Vote to get in office.

Unfortunately, this is a flawed approach the way he is doing it.

Most Hispanic voters who are citizens don’t vote on this issue.

Most Republicans are conservative and most conservatives reject this view.

If most “illegal immigrants” are granted citizenship, those who bothr to vote, will vote mainly Democrat for the same reason that most Hispanic Americans do so - i.e. the GOP has not given them a reason not to.

The WaPo is lost in the confusion of their own propaganda.

I can easily clue them in.

All Republican establishment members poke their base in the eye. It is a rite of passage, it’s a gang initiation, it’s what is expected.

It’s getting worse than in previous years/campaigns, because the Clintonbushes thought they could hide their intentions indefinitely.

Now, however, it is a shock for them to realize even the conservatives have stopped yelling at each other for not having voted for Romney and realize that those three million who did not are not coming back for any more and that that number will have grown - they have the numbers.

Jeb bought one hour on Fox Saturday, preempting Judge Jennine’s show, ostensibly studying the wonderful family known as Bush, with Clinton hamming it up in the first five minutes.

He is so confused, the prince is.

So Jeb is pissed, indignant, entitled, and therefore, obnoxious. he

There. Is that about it?

Why? Because the Republican Establishment wants a new base -- specifically the base they had before Reagan, i.e., suburbanites. Suburbanites are fiscally conservative but socially moderate and liberal. They don't have litmus tests. They are easier to please. The Evangelical base pushed them into the Democratic Party, and the Republican Establishment intends to use Jeb Bush to bring them back into the fold. This means fudging the social issues held in such high value by the Evangelical base.

There is also the recognition by the Republican Establishment that America is becoming a less white and less Judeo-Christian country, and they need to compete for those votes lest the Democrats lock them in for a generation.

The day after the 2012 election, I predicted this. This move by the Republican Establishment is right on schedule. Expect Jeb to be a chronic campaigner for Republicans in this year's election. He needs to stack up those political IOU's.

Pretty obvious to me he is carrying out another step in the plan to isolate conservatives from the ‘mainstream’ using tried and true Democrat Alynski tactics.

He is banking on the squishes and libs to go into a condemn the ‘”heartless” conservatives’ frenzy with the aid of the MSM.

Thus making things harder for people like Cruz and Palin.
