A large chunk of American adults are no longer in the labor force. That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn't find a job.

Because for some it is more profitable to hire foreigners, here or there, legal or not?

As long as markets let the govt.create fake money to fund these entitlements, the party will continue.

Some day it’s gonna be ugly.

After buying several dozen yutes each a pair of Air Jordans with my 2012 tax check to the US Treasury, I have since scaled back.

No Opportunity: America’s Young Face Permanent Setback

Many, if not most of the entry level jobs for High School graduates are being given to the illegal aliens. A young man just out of High School who was not on a track to go to college used to be able to pick up a job in construction or another field of like ability. Those jobs are now being given to the illegals because the business owner can pay them under the table and skip all those onerous taxes.

We should be happy that those owners, along with their buddies in the Chamber of Commerce are trying so hard to bring in even more people who will work for slave wages and cut out more American youth from the job market. /sarc

20 million jobless Americans and 20 million illegal immigrants.
Coincidence?
I think not.

Because no matter how many excellent fit jobs I apply for the captains of my industry swear under oath to congress that they simply can't, just can't, find any Americans to fill them, and congress authorizes evermore cheap H-1Bs to take them.

(Yes, I know H-1Bs are supposed to be paid the "prevailing wage". Cheap foreign labor SETS the prevailing wage, and BTW, I'd be delighted to work for an H-1B's wage.)

But much like the Depression, as long as the rate slowly ticks down over time, liberals claim victory.

The rate is so low because the Government is using fake numbers. They are lying.

There is always a “job” that needs doing; then I suppose that depends upon your definition of “job”. Most consider it trading their life for paper credits. A few learn that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case - especially when the fruits of their labor is contributing to their societies downfall.

I am sorry for your predicament, but if you believe your wife is being discriminated because of her age, then you have a legal case. Of course, you can never know why you never get that callback.

Go mini-Galt: starve the beast.

An example would be someone who works to earn money and doesn't have time to repair a leaking sink drain. The person pays almost 50% of what he makes in taxes and other costs, then from what's left, he pays $85 for a plumber to come to his house (service call) to repair the drain plus $85 hour on top of that to do the actual repair work and a premium for the part (these high rates are due to taxes, license fees, insurance, and ...).

So what this homeowner could have fixed in one hour of his time plus a trip to the hardware store for a $10 part, he winds up working almost two days to pay for a $200 repair job after he works to also pay the taxes on the money he has earned, let's say he makes $25 hour (1 day for the money, 1 day to pay the taxes and other costs of having a job (transportation, clothing, insurance, state income, fed income, ...)).

Just one little example. There are countless more...

All of that to say I completely agree with you. ;)

They don’t need to ask your age. They just to read how many years of experience you have and do simple math to figure out how old you are.
No age discrimination.
Have you ever noticed that companies announcing layoffs also post jobs for new college graduates on their websites at the same time?

Hmmm.

I don’t know if she did or not but lying your way into a job probably won’t work out.
It wouldn’t if I hired you and found out you misrepresented yourself.

Other important facets of the guest worker programs are that they:

1) Disincentivize the conversion of guest workers into US citizens.

2) Provide a labor pool that is more easily controlled (with respect to portability and wages) than equivalent US citizens.

The same thing applies in other countries that use similar programs - where wages aren’t so much the issue as much as the lack of freedom experienced by the guest workers.

...what do you expect them to do?

Used to be, when people found themselves out of work with no prospects, they started their own company out of desperation. That doesn't happen anymore, they go on assistance.
