HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI -- A woman who signed an apartment lease with her boyfriend and allegedly agreed to be liable for any smoke or water damage, faces a $2 million lawsuit after he attempted to cook a squirrel and started a massive fire with a torch.

...

Khek Chanthalavong told investigators the blaze started after he had been using a torch on the deck of a unit he shared with Barbara Pellow, to burn the fur off a squirrel he'd captured. Once the fur was removed, he placed the torch in the corner of their deck, next to a plastic plant holder. He then went inside to cook the rodent.

Pellow awoke to Chanthalavong yelling and throwing water on flames that were quickly growing on the deck. The fire spread and caused major damage to 32 units in the couple's building. Pellow told police she had no knowledge of the torch being used.

Reporters attempted to contact next of kin for this story, but apparently, Moose has not returned their calls.

They use the term “fiancé” for shack up honeys now. A person could go through several fiancés in their lifetime without having ever actually married a single one of them.

Assuming the structure is occupied and properly screened at vents, I have not had a problem with squirrels.

I simply do not feed them, mow and keep ground cover down thin.

The rascals don't have anyplace to hide stuff (which they always forget), and stay in the trees and park. Keeps the blue jays away too.

Squirrels are truly nuts, the only thing predictable about 'em is, no food, no squirrels.

Where did you two get the idea that the squirrel was still alive?

There are a lot of them out there. In the Eighties, a modified bitumen roof was being installed on an old cold-sotrage building converted into loft art galleries. It was a torch-down system in which the edge of successive sheets are “glued” together by heating the edges with a torch and pressing down. One roofer left his torch on as he was getting another roll of roofing; the blaze burned down an entire block. The following day the skeleton of heavy timber bow trusses and columns were still giving off smoke despite being sprayed by fire hoses.

Couldn't be sure from the article, but I just skimmed it.

If the squirrel was dead, I retract "sadistic".

From the text.

In the meantime we can both watch avidly the saga of the birth certificate, the travels and education of the now President of the United States. (Chuckle).
