DETROIT (WWJ) - As a 54-year-old Roseville man clings to life in the hospital following a brutal mob beating on Detroit’s east side, many are starting to wonder if the whole thing was racially motivated. As first reported by WWJ Newsradio 950, an 11-year-old boy suffered a broken leg on Wednesday when he was hit by a pickup truck after walking into the street near Morang and Balfour. The driver, Steven Utash, immediately got out of his truck after hitting the boy and was viciously attacked by 10 to 12 men. The beating was so brutal, Utash was rendered unconscious.
Our preliminary investigation shows the child stepped in front of his vehicle,” Woody said. “He did exactly the right thing. He stopped his vehicle, he got out and he tried to render aid to a small child. He did exactly what he was supposed to do… It was a small child and it was an accident; is what it was.” State Rep. Alberta Tinsley Talabi (D-Detroit), told WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton the incident appears to have racial overtones, adding, “it’s wrong.” Joseph Utash said although it was tough to stomach, he watched video of the incident. “As my dad’s truck was coming down the street, the kid stepped right in front of my dad’s truck. My dad had absolutely not one chance in the world to try to swerve out-of-the-way or stop,” he said. “He got out of the car to check on the kid and before he even got up to the kid, he got assaulted by 11, 12 people. They jumped all over him and beat him up.

I believe it because its the truth. Whether you have the courage to face that truth isn’t up to me.
Oddly enough, I’m not so sure. Post-accident driver beatdowns are almost unto themselves as far as crimes go. They usually require two elements: a sympathetic victim, and a driver perceived as driving recklessly.
But there are other, more subtle factors involved.
It doesn’t quite conform to the rules of vigilantism, such as a crowd reaction to a “hue and cry” of “stop thief!”, but it is close.
Importantly, the crowd must have an interventionist attitude, instead of either an “onlooker” or “not my problem” attitude; and this is less common. However, in this case, there might be a reason.
The chief of police in Detroit has told the public to arm themselves and enforce the law themselves. And this may have caused a sea change in public attitudes of late. While this beatdown was wrong, it may have been the first demonstration of a new public confidence in improving their own lives by fighting crime, or what they believe is crime.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

That thought crossed my mind. Especially when it was mentioned that the event was videotaped.
Seriously though, I would not be shocked to discover that the boy stepped out and got hit on purpose. I used to flip houses in the part of town that was 95% black. It was an almost daily occurrence that a 13-40 year-old male would step in front of my truck on the thoroughfare. It was a power play to make me stop. You could lay on the horn and they would never even look up. The only time they ever looked up was when they ID'd the driver before stepping out.
Detroit doesn’t need any help, but Obama has been stoking racial tensions throughout his whole term and has made it clear that the scales of justice are tilted toward those who act out against the “other.” Maybe they will burn down a neighborhood to celebrate.

The media will be silent so no public outrage. If the offenders are caught... so what? Its just another arrest to their rap sheet and it will not disrupt their lives the slightest.

Wrong. This is typical and has been typical in the given situation for most of my 50 year life. If you don't recognize the "step into your path" power play, then you've never been a white person driving through the 'hood.
This is obviously referring to the driver hitting the boy. No way could it be the boy's fault for stepping into the street without watching....

The press needs to stop dithering around as if each case of black ultra-violence can only be acknowledged if it meets the criteria of progressives.

I'm sorry, but America is involved in some kind of undeclared, one-sided guerrilla war, and nothing will change until the victims fight back, and the powers that be are forced to admit the truth about what's going on.
