Ousted Ukraine president ‘wrong’ to invite Russian troops into Crimea

n his first interview since fleeing to Russia, Ukraine‘s ousted president said Wednesday that he was “wrong” to have invited Russian troops into Crimea and vowed to try to persuade Russia to return the coveted Black Sea peninsula.

Defensive and at times teary-eyed, Viktor Yanukovych told The Associated Press and Russia’s state NTV television that he still hopes to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin to get the annexed region back.

Yanukovych said he has spoken with Putin twice by phone and once in person since he arrived in Russia — describing their talks as “difficult” — and hopes to have more meetings with the Russian leader to negotiate Crimea’s return to Ukraine.

“We must search for ways … so that Crimea may have the maximum degree of independence possible … but be part of Ukraine,” he said.

“I was wrong,” he said. “I acted on my emotions.”

I’m guessing that he acted on promises made and then withdrawn once the fait was accompli. Now he’s president of his own trust fund which in and of itself should keep him fairly busy. If he wanders back across the ever-shifting border then he’ll be even busier in court.

If he ever wonders into Ukraine he will be busy with a rope.

He was a stupid idiot. He gave the Russians the pretext that they needed! Putin is not giving back Crimea. It’s too late now.

Putin’s puppet did as he was told, and now that it’s too little too late, claims to be sorry about it.

He got off light — the first puppet ruler of Afghanistan installed by the USSR invited in the Red Army, and then he was cornered in his palace and murdered by Red Army cutthroats.

Thanks Berlin_Freeper.

April Fools Day was Wednesday in Russia? I thought they had adopted the Western calendar after the Bolsheviks took over.

The only way Ukraine will get back Crimea would be to submit to a Russian puppet ruler similar to Lushenko in Belarus.

Does he get to keep his $15 billion that he stole? If he was truly sorry, that could be used to pay off Ukraine’s debt to Russia.

Yeah, Yanukovich is a defeated man, now it’s just pathetic.

I just love watching this video from his first press conference after fleeing Ukraine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcuR8r5y0R8

“And now I’d like to address the people of Ukraine. First... (breaks the pen).... I’d like to apologize...”

I don’t think anybody missed the symbolism of this thing.
On the same conference, there was also his Freudian slip “Ukraine is OUR strategic partner”
