Schubert: "Son of the Muses"

In German. The words swirl by at an amazing speed, but there is a reference to hopping from hill to hill. Matthias Goerne, tenor, accompanied by Andreas Haefliger.

the Scottish Soldier song may not be called that ..

I sang it as a Brownie nearly 60 years ago..

goes something like...

and then this soldier this Scottish soldier
he battled far away and soldiered far away...
and then this soldier with good broad shoulder
he fought in many a fray and fought and won..

but now these ... hills are not island? hills
theyre not my lands hills nor the highland hills
and now these green hills foreign hills maybe
they are not the hills of hame (home)

etc

Schubert: "On the Bridge", D. 853

In German. This is Schubert's version of "Born to Run", and the accompaniment is pure rock and roll. The poem is by the insane poet Ernst Schulze. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau accompanied by Gerald Moore.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms...

“These Mist Covered Mountains are home now to me. But, my home is in the lowlands and always will be”

A song about a southern Civil War casualty in the Smoky Mountains, never to return home.
