DETROIT POLICE STAND WITH CITIZENS WHO ARE USING GUNS FOR SELF-DEFENSE

With "fatal self-defense shootings on the rise in Detroit," law-abiding citizens know one thing--Detroit police have their back.

According to The Detroit News, "justified" self-defense shootings in Detroit are hovering around 10 since January 1st.

This is up considerably from 2013, in which "there were 15 justifiable [self-defense shootings] in the city" during the entire year.

And far from criticizing the fact that more and more homeowners are standing up for their lives and property, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he views this rebirth of self-defense as proof that"more and more Detroiters are becoming empowered."

One immutable, but often forgotten Political Science Axiom is that a society will have exactly the amount of crime it chooses to tolerate.

The society, not the government, will eventually decide where that line is and how to solve the problem. I never thought that I would see the day that Detroit gave me even a sliver of hope for mankind.

Don’t we wish Craig was running security at Ft. Hood?

The police do not need to know your employe or your SSN. 2 years ago I was field arrested (for a charge that was dismissed I might add) and the dick officer insisted that I give him my employer and SSN. I politely refused and he was pissed. Why should I give them leverage over me to contact my employer and put even more hurt on me? Just tell them you are an independent contractor if you don’t feel comfortable telling them no. I was an independent contractor at the time but I still felt it was none of there business.

Re: “BS You don’t have to give them anything except “I want to talk to my lawyer.”

True.

But, under a broad range of circumstances, the police are allowed to detain you indefinitely until they make a positive ID, check for outstanding warrants, and obtain contact information.

If you refuse to help them, you are likely to spend many unnecessary hours, even days, cooling your heels at a local Police Station.

Re: “That’s a big no-no! Citizens are not required to give their SSN to police.”

True.

But they will ask for it, especially if you are white and speak English with an American accent.

Your SSN is a key resource for outstanding warrants, previous contact with law enforcement, DOB verification, and current employer.

You can say no, but under many circumstances, the Police can lawfully detain you until they are certain of your ID and contact information.

Wrong again. Ever heard of habeas corpus? What country are you from?

Well, thanks for bringing me up to date on the law.

The next time I get pulled over for speeding, I’ll refuse to ID myself, then get released, with no ticket, since they won’t know what name to write on it.

Can I keep the marijuana the drug sniffing dog found in my trunk, too?

Someone needed to do it, since it's obvious you don't have a clue
