If anywhere even close to the epicenter, a 7.8 is monstrous. That’s nightmare level...

Try this.

EARTHQUAKE 3D

Go to the link, download the program (takes 2 seconds), then just run it. It's awesome. See EQ activity worldwide, instantly. Zoom in/out, spin the planet, change the timespan and eq intensity. See patterns of activity around the world.

Yes, let’s hope Jim keeps this just the way it is. Almost every other site is so overloaded with ads and other crap that they just aren’t nice to use.

The developers got hold of our city council and town in the past few years and are erecting monstrous buildings all over. Nothing seems to stay the same...I count on the stability of FR and it staying the same.

A powerful earthquake struck off northern Chile late Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said — triggering a tsunami warning and an evacuation of the coastal area.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, part of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, issued a tsunami warning for Chile and Peru.

Was that done by an Earthquake or is that an episode of Hoarders?

That’s what your house will like like if you are in a 8.0 quake. The pic is supposed to be from Chili. It was a little hard to tell from the website where I plucked it.

For some reason #34 is messing up the thread formatting.

I was in a 7.5 in Mexico City many years ago. My date and I were standing in the middle of the street holding each other so we wouldn’t be knocked down. The telephone poles and wires were lashing back and forth, but there was no other sound. Eerie, but plenty of motion, like a fast moving NY subway ride. When I got home, I was told the living room chandelier had been swaying back and forth touching the ceiling on one side and then hitting it on the other. The guy living upstairs was tossed out of bed. If this was a 7.5, I can imagine what a 7.8 might be like.

Anyone interested in making even extremely small movements of the ground below visible, you may want to try the following, it is easy cheap and effective and even will register a truck passing by your house. Take a small glass of water place it on a surface such as a desk, table etc. mount a LED spot light above, a little side ways so it will cast a reflection on the ceiling. The more powerful the light ( an LED, for example a 50 w spot in one of inexpensive desk lamps) and the higher the ceiling, the longer the path of the light, the bigger the amplification. Or if you want to get really fancy you could chop up a piece of CD-DVD glue it on to a small piece of wood or cork and float it on the water with the light shining on it. t is an interesting experiment.
