Rick Santorum, in movie exec mode, considers his options for 2016
Washington Post ^ | 04/01/2014 | Ben Terris

“There’s going to be a fight on the right to see who will be the Christian conservative choice of 2016,” says Jamie Johnson, a former Santorum campaign staffer. “I’ve never seen the stars aligned like this before in Iowa, with so many possibilities. I love Rick Santorum, and I wish him the best, but this is a new day.”

It’s a day when GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (Tex.) and Rand Paul (Ky.) are rock stars and when former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee could jump in and steal a lot of the evangelical support. And that’s just the fight for the right flank of the party. Who knows whether Jeb Bush or Chris Christie will end up eating away at the pie? This means that even some of Santorum’s most avid supporters last time around can’t promise to be there for him going forward. Ask Chuck Laudner, an Iowa strategist who logged thousands of miles in his pickup truck, working as just one of seven people on the Santorum campaign stationed in Iowa.

“Put it this way,” he said when asked about whether he plans on taking the truck out again in 2016. “Rick’s got dibs. But I don’t expect that you can re-create the 2012 caucus and re-create that dynamic. I doubt that anybody is going to be riding in that truck except me.”

Of course, you don’t mention he won his Senate seat two times, not bad for a place like Pennsylvania and lost mainly in a year, Republicans were just plainly beaten bad.

He’s prolife, gets the best rating of any mainstream politician around. Hardly seems phony but name-calling and falsehoods seem to be your style.

Do you think that also applies to Palin?

Palin does not hold office anywhere because she does not want to.

She learned years ago she makes much more money, with much less stress, by writing books, giving speeches, having 100 TV shows, etc.

Every once in awhile she'll tease people with the idea she *might* run for president. But that's more about keeping her name in the news & making money than actually running for office.

Thanks for the personal attack, speaking of “style”, I merely posted facts on Santorum.

Santorum lost by a BIGGER margin than Christine O’Donnell, and he was the incumbent! It was history making that election cycle, and not at all typical as you tried to claim, no one resembled Santorum’s 18 point wipeout.

The Catholic Santorum admits to switching to pro-life to run for office in 1990, but in 1996 he endorsed and campaigned for, Arlen Specter’s presidential run, to change the GOP to a pro-abortion platform.

Santorum was devoted to Specter (under the radar and behind the scenes), and supported him against Toomey in both 2004, and 2010.

Specter, with Santorum on stage, endorsing and clapping:
“I want to take abortion out of politics. I want to keep the Republican Party focused on the vital economic and foreign policy issues — and leave moral issues such as abortion to the conscience of the individual. I believe abortion is an issue to be decided by women.”
“I pledge to lead the fight to strip the strident anti-choice language from the Republican National platform.”

Santorum backed Specter over Toomey. Was he great then?

And this is why he is unelectable. He betrayed us.

How about because of his history to date?

My Senator Cornyn also supported Specter over Toomey. I won’t vote for him anymore either.

Thanks; I've notice Santorum boosters on FR tend not to support Palin very much.

Getting weary of what and who ever running to lefty advocate publications like the New York Times or Wapoo and their edited pontifications given any credit. If they appear here don’t give a damm what they say or think.

What are you talking about?

Was that strange post an emotional lashing out, because you can’t challenge any facts in post 23?

Palin may have been the most popular governor in history and left office with very high approval ratings.

Palin left to lead a national movement, and has changed the political landscape and moved the GOP right, and has helped elect Governors, Congressmen, and Senators like Ted Cruz.

Santorum is a guy who has been desperately seeking work since he was booted out of the Senate by an historical loss for an incumbent Senator.

About 18 points, even worse than the infamous Christine O’Donnell race, and she wasn’t a 12 year incumbent.

Santorum has learned how to whip up some Conservatives, by appealing to their wish lists of how a moral society should operate in certain particulars; but he is no Conservative--nor does he seem to even understand the context of some of his favorite issues.

While he is postulating his moral absolutes, he fails to recognize the legal context--that is, what level of Government is responsible in a particular area of concern. The Founding Fathers deliberately left the Police Powers (health, safety & moral concerns) to the States & local governments. Santorum seems indifferent to the most basic divisions of responsibility in his rush to prohibit what offends him. That is neither Conservative, nor moral. It shows an undisciplined fanaticism, but nothing useful in returning America to her principles, both political & cultural.

It shows an undisciplined fanaticism,...

That can often be dangerous. I didn't get the same reading about Santorum, though: his being a fanatic. With the few I've talked with here in the South, his allegiance to Rome seemed more of a concern to voters than, say, John Kennedy's brand, or Newt Gingrich's newly-converted brand.

The main thing Santorum had going in the South was his stance on abortion. Beating that drum got monotonous here since RTL'ers disagreed with other aspects of his politics. I don't see him getting as much support here in 2016 as he had against Romney. And Romney was a big reason Santorum received support here in 2012.

If anybody was helping Romney it was you.

I beg to differ. I never even sent money to his campaign let alone vote for him.
