Washington, D.C. Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement today commemorating Cesar Chavez day. Cesar Chavez, who founded the National Farm Workers Association, fought to institute a minimum wage, worked for access to clean drinking water for farm workers, and advocated for equal pay for equal work. A World War II Navy veteran, Chavez was also the recipient of the Navys highest honor with the commissioning of the United States Naval Ship (USNS) Cesar Chavez in 2011.
Today we honor an American hero who dedicated his life to improving working conditions for farm workers and defended labor rights for all Americans. Although Cesar Chavez is no longer with us, we must carry on his legacy by creating jobs for the middle class, restoring long term unemployment insurance for those who lost their jobs through no fault of their own, making sure all workers earn fair pay for their work, and stopping the separation of families by passing immigration reform.
Eliseo Medina, who worked alongside Cesar Chavez during the 1970s, honors his legacy today by fasting and organizing communities across the nation to join the fight against the separation of families. As Eliseo and all of us celebrate the life of this iconic American, we must work to protect his legacy and continue to fight for every American family, in Nevada and every state, to have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream and to stay united as a family.
Championing a marxist.
They didn't want any part of his "union". Chavez and his thugs threatened to rape their wives and daughters if they didn't join. Someone should tell the real story!

Be interested in any links, book recommendations, etc that show this info. Thanks!
Why can’t we get January 8th off?
It should darn well be a holiday...
I don’t have any links. I actually lived it. I grew up in a small town near Fresno CA when Chavez and his thugs rolled into town. I know what the farm workers told my dad and I know how afraid they were to leave the orchards because they were being followed. Wasn’t safe for me at this time either.
I suppose Che Guevara day and Mao Tse Tung day will be celebrated by dingy Harry soon too. Can Joseph Stalin day be far away?
Well, let’s get to it:
Hitler Day,
Satan Day,
And the ulitmate, bo-day.
It wasn’t OK for illegal aliens to take jobs from Chavez’s United Farm
Workers Union back in the day but the illegals are welcomed now
because they all join the union.
I went to college on the Central Coast in the early 70s. Had a
roomie who became a GM of a mid-sized lettuce farm outside
of his hometown of Salinas. He has told me scary stories of
the antics of Cesar’s union thugs.
