Why exactly a national homeland for Jews would be acceptable to Palestinian Islamic supremacists in a way that Jewish state isnt remains unclear, but the Palestinians, as maximalist and unilateral as ever, have already rejected the proposal, so we will probably never glimpse the arcane reasoning processes of the formidable Kerry.
Report: Kerry suggests defining Israel as national homeland for Jews, by Roi Kais for Ynet News, March 29 (thanks to Jerk Chicken):
US Secretary of State John Kerry is trying to overcome the controversy surrounding the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state by changing the definition to the national homeland of the Jews, the London-based Arabic Al-Hayat newspaper reported Saturday morning.
The report, that quoted western diplomatic sources, noted that in exchange for Kerrys initiative, the Palestinians would have to agree that the Palestinian capital would be established only in parts of East Jerusalem; it was further reported that the Palestinians have rejected the proposal.

Code for ghetto.
The Palestinian Arabs will not agree to Jewish nationhood under any circumstances.
This is what they reject outright and that’s exactly why the peace process is dead.
I see a big difference, and I see a trap.
Its basically the same thing. Secretary Kerry clarified to every one what the Arabs really oppose:
National self-determination for the Jewish people. That is exactly why in truth peace is impossible in the Middle East.
Without Arab agreement to this basic principle, the conflict will never be over.
You know, like Birobidjan was the ‘national homeland for Jews’ in the Soviet Union.
Or Thereisienstadt was the “homeland for Jews” in the Third Reich.
Wasn’t the “national homeland” idea already tried with the Balfour Declaration?
That’s the ticket, Israel. You too can have a DHS just like US ...

That’ll solve the problem.
I'll take a stab at that one. A "national homeland" does not imply sovereignty, control, or permanence. It's sort of like having a room in a hotel. It's your home as long as the owner of the hotel agrees to it.
Israel would do well to ignore everything Kerry says or will say.
Yes, with the idea that it should remain under British sovereignty.
Kerry Suggests....
Ludicrous that kerry thinks anyone but ISRAEL is on any position to make any CHOICES for Israel
How about defining Israel as: the nation of Israel.
Same reason that “people of color” is politically correct but “colored people” is racist.
Because.
It is extremely difficult to remove the problems and political complications of the Middle-East from religion. But Kerry has done it. There are political forces in this country that feel ‘bad’ for Native Americans because their country was taken over. Well the country of the People of the Book, the Jews, is well documented in the Bible. So anyone like Kerry trying to dictate international whatevers has to take to account the history of the Jews in the Middle-East. Someone a little more important than Kerry gave the Jews their land. Its boundaries were defined by wherever Moses placed his foot after receiving God’s instructions for His people. So from Palestine to the border of Egypt everyone should be happy that the Jews don’t claim all of it and fight for it.
With its' capital, Jerusalem.
Kerry can’t possibly believe taht the PLO seriously wants peace.
So this means he is shilling for them?
Kerry may be the absolute dumbest man to ever hold his position.
Kerry is embarrassing himself and insulting the intelligence of the Israelis. The latter bothers me greatly. The former concerns me not at all, but you’d think he’d have one friend who’d...never mind.
