Maryland to Drop Obamacare Exchange: 'Broken Beyond Repair' Cash wasted on this clunker. Geoffrey Norman March 29, 2014 10:45 AM

The state of Maryland has encountered many setbacks in its attempt to get a health care website up and running smoothly. (Sound familiar?) And now, it has run up the white flag. As Mary Pat Flaherty and Jenna Johnson of the Washington Post report:

… [Maryland] officials are set to replace the state’s online health-insurance exchange with technology from Connecticut’s insurance marketplace, according to two people familiar with the decision, an acknowledgment that a system that has cost at least $125.5 million is broken beyond repair.

One of those officials would, of course, be the state’s governor, Martin O’Malley, a self effacing man who recently announced, after a fashion, that he might very well be running for President, even if that means taking on Hillary Clinton in a campaign for his party’s nomination. Not quite two months ago, when:

Asked whether he thought he would be a good president, O’Malley said, “Yes, I think I would be, for these times especially.”

As John Wagner of the Washington Post, wrote at the time, O’Malley:

… cited his adherence to “a new way of leadership in our country,” including the statistics-driven CityStat and StateStat initiatives he launched in Baltimore and Annapolis, respectively, to measure the performance of government agencies.

“It is very much a way of leadership that’s more collaborative, that’s much more open, that is performance-measured, that is much more interactive, and it is the new way of leadership in the information age,” he said. “I believe in my bones that this is the future.”

The present, however, is less splendid for people in Maryland where, as the governor says:

… we have been changing the flat tires on this rolling car for the last five, going on six months now. And it has gotten better with every new fix applied to it, [but it is] still not working as it was supposed to work.”

Yeah, what the hell. 125 million in other people’s money isn’t a big deal, right?

Get a new system that will keep this floating turd going.

Remember those low IQ dope types in school?

They’re all in the gubmit now...the only place where losers naturally gather.

Remember, war is what happens when the gubmit identifies an enemy.

Revolution is what happens when WE identify the enemy.

And there is no greater enemy than low IQ gubmit idiots.

The system was designed to fail, IMO.

So the government could take over the entire health care system and impose single-payer. They’ll blame the insurance companies, individual states, Bush, Putin and anyone but themselves.

It would be interesting to see a grand total for the federal website plus costs for each of the state exchanges that’s been built.

Watch your mouth — they’re not THAT dumb!!

They came up with a new light bulb and you must not forget their scientific sizing of the modern water tank on your toilet. (Can you imagine — people become congress critters to size toilet bowls)

And let’s not forget their view on global warming, er climate change.

Now don’t hurt their feelings. Don’t you know that when you are elected to any political office that instantaneously you become an expert on EVERYTHING?

Before ObamaCare there were over 1,100 insurance companies in the health market. Now there are 30, plus there are now 463 counties in the US that have only one health insurance underwriter.

Furthermore, each of those 1,100+ defunct insurance companies had sufficient IT systems, sales and back-office support staff and were all paying claims on a timely basis, backed up by a state regulator who was happy to enforce the letter of the law.

ObamaCare caused the trashing and total waste of all of these system and facilities and has spent billions in a futile attempt to replicate their functions, all in the name of insuring the uninsured.

Broken Beyond Repair' Cash wasted on this clunker.

By nature, state owned or run businesses are higher cost, lower quality of supply, lower quantity of supply, and lower efficiency than privately own or run businesses.

True, but how is it that some states like Washington managed to put out a deliverable that functions pretty much to spec (and without Oracle's "help"!)?

Good luck with that. The fed codified obamacare under US tax law. Don’t pay in? Don’t participate and pay your “fair share” you say? The feds can now legally through the IRS: fine, penalize, seize your property and assets, and imprison you if you do not comply. It will happen, just as the architects of obamacare have planned, and it WILL happen. Remember, under obama the IRS has its own swat team and police force, along with billions of rounds of ammunition, and they are just itching to use it.

The WA website had a rocky start, but is supposed to be better now. The first day it would give out random quotes regardless of the information submitted by the user. Then there was a period where the website generated erroneous subsidy numbers. Haven’t heard much about it lately.
