Many of the smaller ‘independent’ hospitals can only remain open if they’re bought out and taken over by a larger group. The rest will have to shut down. This has been going on for several years. 0bamacare may be hastening events.

According to the hospital's website, they are the largest employer in the city of North Adams.

So, how do they stay open? North Adams is a nice place but there is no way the local citizenry can support a facility this size. This isn't necessarily Obamacare or Romneycare. It's more about declining demographics.

In the whole report, not a word as to WHY the place is closing. I guess this just happened in a vacuum, with no rhyme or reason? The closest they get to an explanation is a vague reference to “the health care environment. “ More crackerjack journalism from our friends in the media.

Ninety percent of the people who are whining about this probably bitched, bitched, bitched, bitched, bitched about their bill from the "greedy hospital"...

"Look at this, $11.50 for an aspirin!!"

.... despite the fact that (1) they probably actually had to pay ten cents on the dollar of that bill and (2) had no idea of the insane cost-increasing regulations the hospital had to cope with.

I wish them joy, they'll now have one less thing to bitch about.
