ACA Penalty: What You Need to Know(I thought it was a tax?)
NBC Connecticut ^ | Mar 27, 2014 | Jeff Saperstone

Posted on 03/27/2014 4:44:34 PM PDT by mdittmar

March 31 is the deadline to enroll for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. After that day, individuals without insurance could face a penalty.

That penalty is $95 or 1% of your income, whichever is more.

Even though the White House extended that deadline, the State of Connecticut is not.

Monday remains the deadline but there are some exceptions that would allow you to enroll after then without penalty.

"If you have some sort of a life status change: a divorce or death, loss of insurance coverage through an employer, those would be considered life status changes and you would be able to obtain insurance as well," said Stephanie DeGrandi, a broker with the Health Consultants Group.

DeGrandi said it is important to save all documents, especially if you lose coverage because of a job loss.

"They're going to need to save them because they're going to need to provide proof to the insurance carrier that they enroll in, that they in fact lost coverage," she said.

It is hard to believe that we have devolved as a nation so far that citizens will now be fined for being responsible and not having health insurance as they know that they would be able to any medical or hospital bills out of their own pocket.

Penalties for being uninsured increase dramatically over the first three years:

• 2014: $95 per adult, $47.50 per child, up to $285 per family or 1 percent of the adjusted household income

• 2015: $325 per adult, $162.50 per child, up to $975 per family or 2 percent of household income

• 2016: $695 per adult, $347.50 per child, up to $2,085 per family or 2.5 percent of the household income

• 2017: Will be adjusted for inflation

So in addition to all the money that people who elect to be uninsured must pay out for their own pocket for medical expenses, the fines for being self-insured increase?

That’s horrible.

I’ve never seen this before. Someone needs to make a commercial showing these numbers.

Just tell them that you died and that status caused the delay ... most of them will never figure it out.

Faith-based health care co-ops avoid the cost of both the tax and the Obamacare health plans. I belong to Christian Healthcare Ministries.

Do not get a refund.

Exactly! Civil disobedience on a scale that would make the Civil Eights marches seem like Ring Around the Rosy.

Oliviaforever:" It is hard to believe that we have devolved as a nation so far that citizens will now be fined for being responsible and not having health insurance

As I understand the new ACA (mis-named the Affordable Care Act) you cannnot directly pay the physician ,
as the new Nationalized healthcare requires payment though health insurance.
To direct pay , would make both you and the physician liable for violating the law.
See , the law which controls 1/6th of the GDP makes direct payment to a physician a criminal act .
It is designed to make us all criminals (see "Atlas Shrugged" for further details).

Now don't tell me that you haven't read the 8 1/2 feet of the new law guidelines , endorsed and supported by Sebilious ?
Don't forget : " Ignorance of the Law is no excuse ! "

Even though the White House extended that deadline, the State of Connecticut is not.

I thought the IRS calculates and collects the (fee/tax).
