no shooter was taken into custody and no one is being sought by authorities
Sounds like a murder/suicide.
That’s close to the D&S Piers if they’re still there. Or is it D&S?
Good observation...sailor escorted civilian they knew/were related to onto base then murder/suicide??
old D & S...aka destroyers and subs.....piers still there, just a different name...think it is all just NOB now....but you/re right..pier 1 used to be part of D&S...D&S is no more...guess what ties up at those piers?...destroyers and subs.....or whatever the new name is for destroyers and subs...
I knew it had to be close because we tied up a few times up at Pier 7. But back then NOB was a three carrier berth base. Pier 1 the Main Gate would have heard it also. Up till tonight I don’t think I’d heard of a shooting on base. Fights? Yea sure, but no shootings.

I had a great tour of the Norfolk base, but it was back in he 60s. A neighbor of my relatives was a fellow ham radio guy, as well as a legal officer at the base. We had a tour of the Independence carrier. The Intrepid was docked next to her, and a number of subs were on the other side of the road.
Two males - ask, tell, whatever....

A civilian was shot and killed by security officers Monday night at Norfolk Naval Station after a shooting that left a sailor dead aboard the destroyer Mahan.
The incident occurred about 11:20 p.m. on Pier 1, according to Navy spokeswoman Terri Davis. The civilian male, described by the Navy as the suspect in the shooting, was shot and killed by Naval Security Forces. Davis could not say whether there was a standoff between the man and the security officers.
“That’s part of the investigation,” Davis said.
The civilian was authorized to be on the base, but Davis could not provide additional details.
The sailor who died was described only as a male. Navy officials expect to release his identity after his relatives have been contacted.
No other injuries were reported
