You fear the world too much.
But science has advanced enough to define what makes a 'person,' as legal standards require, as a living human being. Those defining characteristics exist from the moment of conception to the moment of death and exist regardless of developmental stage, injury or illness.
We'd have to win elections first.
That makes no sense. If passed into law it would be the political reality. Do you oppose making that the law?
I really don’t.
The 14th Amendment has been invoked far more times to grant corporations the rights normally only allotted to citizens than by blacks to get the same rights as whites.
That demonstrates a pretty anti-business worldview on your part. Are you sure you're on the right forum?
Those defining characteristics are not clearly defined as you can see from this conversation. Let's quit here. Nobody's learning anymore.
More laws die at conception than embryos. Thanks for all you do. Take care.
Depends on the definition of a corporation. Business and “corporation” are not necessarily synonymous.
Sebelius is an idiot, if your religion believes life begins at conception, implantation is irrelevant... Hobby Lobby argument is religious freedom, obviously Sebelius et al have no idea about what religious beliefs entail.
Interfering in any way with the natural progression of that life, began at conception is murder, period. That’s the religious argument, this counter argument from the DOJ is laughable.
I think they are synonymous enough for the purpose of the argument presented in the post I answered. I’m sure the vast majority of the “corporations” referred to are in fact “businesses.”
Precisely so.
Its irrelevant.
Many religious believe LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION, PERIOD.
Blocking implantation is no less a violation of their religious believes than terminating its life after implantation.
There is no legal basis for the argument the DOJ is trying to make, its grasping at straws.
That depends on how much they are in bed with government.
After all, “incorporation” merely means the recognition as a person under the law. As such, recall that governments themselves are recognized as corporations. Corporate personhood means the legal recognition as an individual, entailing inherent collectivism.
Do you or don’t you support making it the law?
No I don’t.
Can’t disagree with that. I think, for the purposes of my comment, it’s a distinction without a difference. Of course, it’s all academic if I never get a reply.
Fair enough. I do so I guess that’s that.
But we knew that from the start, didn’t we? Take care.
I am opposed to crony capitalism as most people on FR seem to be these days. Except, of course, for those few naive useful idiots in the libertarian camp who think everything will work out in the wash if corporations are allowed to do whatever they please.
