“Demonstrably so”? Science has determined when a human spirit has entered the newly genetically-unique organism? Please show us that demonstration.

Same slippery slope that is leading to “fourth-trimester abortion” sounding logical.

Nonsense argument. We both agree it’s a baby well before birth.

There’s also what God said to Jeremiah (1:5)
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. (ESV)
Seems to me that some of these people would find a way to justify aborting Jesus Himself.

It was your premise. And it was not a poorly stated premise
as your argument followed it. It is simply a false premise.

When you can call a human being a 'baby' is not the question. The question is 'when does a living human being come into existence?' The answer is 'at conception.'

But not from conception, when the zygote forms with its unique genetic structure. Remember that Jesus also came from a single cell; would you argue that He was not Messiah as a zygote, in spite of that very conception being a fore-ordained miracle?

Just curious...

What do you call other fertilized ova that eventually flush out of a woman's body during menstruation because they didn't implant?

The answer is in Ecclesiastes 12:7.

You are making a religious argument based on Christianity, correct? From the Bible we can read that “God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Pick yer poison: http://biblehub.com/genesis/2-7.htm

Note bene that “formed” means like an artisan forming something chaotic into something orderly/beautiful (in this particular case in the “image and likeness of God” in other words in an outline of God to be filled in later)

“Dust” is an unused word meaning earth or earth materials. Both “Adam” and “man” are the same word in Hebrew.

There is order and logic in the story: “God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

1. Adam/man is formed from preexisting earth materials

2. God breaths life (his soul?) into him.

3. Only then does Adam/man become a living being (soul).

Demonstrably, no?

Now if you want a scientific explanation I adjure to exDemmom. She’s already laid out what science knows previously, no? She seems very patient.

Try my wholly Biblical argument found here:

I understand that Catholic teaching follows the Pope as spokesman for God and doesn’t necessarily look to the Bible for all its doctrine, but that’s all I have. Well, that and science, plus a little bit of thinking on my own, God willing.

Despite having a majority of Catholics on the Court, you’re not going to be able to force “conception is life” on America.

The political reality is otherwise. Limit it as low as you can and leave the rest to God.

I have heard/read that verse which seems to contradict those who say that there is no reference to the subject in the Bible. And then there are the Vedas, written hundreds of years earlier, which state simply and very directly to the subject that 'three things come together at the moment of conception. The essence of the mother, the essence of the father and consciousness (or 'mind' as it is also referred as).'

As I stated in a previous post science may never be able to prove the latter, consciousness, but for legal purposes of establishing the magical legal status of 'person' the biological description of unique DNA, self-replication and DNA type is more than enough and is beyond question.

Allegory is hardly a scientific or legal argument. I would cite the Vedas which addressed the subject directly but that won’t qualify as scientific either and would not rise to a legal standard of proof. Biology achieves both standards.

That’s not an exclusively Catholic view. Even predates Catholicism. And no, I don’t expect heretical Catholics to rule in favor of the right thing, much less because the Catholic Church holds it to be true.

The “political reality” is due to the influence of the god of this world. That was foretold, so I’m neither exasperated by it nor surprised by it. Standing with it is the mistake, because then you become partaker of it; don’t forget that destruction due to it is also foretold.

The political reality can be changed very easily...

I’m a fan of the Bible. It supports my position. Don’t you see that?

I’m on the front lines in the fight against the god of this world. Let’s be friends on this and allies as well: reduce abortion down as far as liberty will let us and don’t let it be an alternative to birth control.

There is a majority in favor of that.

No.

Adam was Adam, and only he and his wife were formed in that manner. There was also no risk of their physical bodies being destroyed, whether by the animals formed before them or by the “serpent of old”.

It’s written that certain of the prophets, including Jesus and John the Baptist, had the Holy Spirit from the womb. Are you really going to try to split hairs as to when that spirit was in their physical form? Can you stand before God and think you can justify that at any certain time, the zygote or blastocyst forms of Jesus and John the Baptist could be aborted and there would be no guilt before Him? How much else any other conceived member of mankind?

It does not. Read it again, and much more carefully; this time with prayer, so the god of this world doesn’t make you see things that aren’t there.
