BERKELEY -- Nobody should be surprised that Rand Paul got so warm a welcome Wednesday, even in a city whose name is often preceded in conversation by "The People's Republic of..."
After all, the junior U.S. Senator from Kentucky and likely contender for 2016's Republican presidential nomination is following in his father's footsteps by drawing crowds of enthusiastic young followers, particularly on college campuses, wherever he goes.
And his policies -- particularly criticizing government surveillance programs, noninterventionist foreign policy, and rethinking the war on drugs -- draw voters from across the spectrum, including some of Berkeley's famed lefties

Why is this a surprise? He wants to legalize pot.
In some way Rand Paul is a Game changer, in that he can effectively appeal to the still soft and not hardened Liberal indoctrinated mind of these students, because he talk about freedom in terms the kids can understand....
Expect the DNC to destroy Rand Paul soon....
Just expect it.... A major hit on him after the 2014 mid terms...
I hope so.
The liberaltarian platform brings in the youth: anti-war, pro-gay, pro-abort, pro-drugs, anything goes, feels good do it.
[ I think what you meant to say is that it appeals to their libertine side, their emotional side, their selfish side, their side that likes legalized Pot, Gay Marriage, and Abortion. ]
Something like that.
That makes the libs nervous though, I think Rand Paul is goign to have a huge character assisnation after the 2014 midterms, especially if the Tea Party sweeps the Midterms.
Then after the libs are done chewing the gristle off of the bones of Rand’s repuation they will target Ted Cruz...
I think the youth are more PO’d about the NSA and the growing police state and Internet surveillance more than anything else.
Don’t care for the Pauls, will never vote for one.
Rand is semi OK...his dad wRONg PAUL is bat $4it crazie however.
Watch the libs resort to propping up the progressive fat man who hugs King Barry.
Watch the libs resort to propping up the progressive fat man who hugs King Barry.
I think they would run a “Hillary/Krispy Kreme” ticket against Rand Paul, they are THAT damned scared of the man.
The MSM newsies would wet their shorts over the “Novel Bipartisan Ticket” as Chrissy’s leg would be shaking the bolts off his chair it would tingling so rapidly...
It would end up being a “Progressive” vs. “Constitutional/Liberaltarian” battle...
I agree. And as for pot, I have no problem with legalizing it. The enforcement isn’t worth it. And alcohol is way more dangerous than a little weed.
Rand is semi OK...his dad wRONg PAUL is bat $4it crazie however.
Rand is a HELL of a LOT better than Romney!
Rand is a LOT less looney than daddy, and that is a good thing.
I would actually consider voting for Rand Paul and actually feeling “hal;fway decent” about it. After I voted for Romney I felt sick, sick because I know the fix was in, and sick because I felt corners as in had no other choice than to throw my vote away....
Rand Paul will win.
Rand Paul won’t even be in the race.
Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are both going to California this month. I like it.
Libertopians can smell each other a mile away
