I have no idea what happened to this flight.

I thought for a while it was next to an island near Malaysia, but it almost certainly would have been identified as being there by now, if it were.

That leaves a bunch of other theories, some of which are pretty out there. And some seem somewhat credible.

We do not yet know what happened.

If George Bush were still in the White House (or any Republican, you can bet your sweet a** they would be running 24/7 coverage of this, with dozens of pundits all screaming “BUSH’S FAULT!!!”

They are too busy running 24/7 with MH370 stories and conspiracy theories with no facts.

The recent press conference dismissed the idea that any waypoints other than the scheduled flight were entered.

There is no evidence of any other waypoints being entered prior to the cutoff of the transponder and ACARS.

The last ACARS transmission reported the standard flight plan, Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

If any waypoints were entered after that, there is no way to know short of finding the plane.

Most everyone has an opinion, but fact is that no one knows what happened. To declare that your opinion, Rob, is more than that, makes you look foolish. Even if you turn out to be correct, you’re still just guessing like the rest of us.

I think the pilot had terrorist connections. He hijacked the plane for some terrorist use, but the plans went awry. It probably crashed in the ocean. I hope I’m wrong and the pilot was able to land somewhere off the radar.

It was no accident — it was deliberate and after reaching the Malaccan Straits more course changes were required and carried out.

At this time there simply is not enough information to tell if it was an accident, hijack or combination of both. To assert otherwise is foolish.

My feeling is that the Boeing 777 then meandered out aimlessly over the ocean with its dead pilots till its fuel was exhausted.

Unfortunately that "feeling" fails to take into account the subsequent flight path through two established waypoints commonly used as part of an established route toward Europe and the Middle East -- a route you can't just "wander" along.

The red path below is what this author, and a retired pilot whose article everyone has been forwarding the past few days, are suggesting as a "simple" solution -- the yellow path through waypoints IGARI, VAMPI, GIVAL and IGREX is the actual radar observed path that the aircraft followed.

The mystery of 370 has created more “I am a certified pilot posts” than anything I’ve ever witnessed. Wired published “A Startlingly Simple Theory About the Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet” by “Chris Goodfellow who has 20 years experience as a Canadian Class-1 instrumented-rated pilot for multi-engine planes.”

His theory: “The pilot may have ascended to 45,000 feet in a last-ditch effort to quell a fire by seeking the lowest level of oxygen.”

I would love to see that in a flight manual. The oxygen levels at 45,000 feet would have killed everyone aboard within 8-10 seconds. If the cabin were pressurized, the exercise would have been pointless.

Than he states:

“Fire in an aircraft demands one thing: Get the machine on the ground as soon as possible.” That’s incorrect. The standard course of action is a distress signal and mayday though one of many communication methods, followed by an attempt to land. What was the pilot going to do, show up unannounced at the airport in a flaming jet singing “I did it myyyyyyy way....”
