Did you read the article by any chance?
This is NOT the “same old same old.”

Sure did. Some students occupied Parliament. Student occupations of buildings are fairly common around the world. Brawls are common in the Taiwan Parliament. There is one really interesting fight shown on youtube where one woman slaps another and a brawl erupts.
The Taiwanese obviously like their politics straight up with lots of slapping, screaming, and pulling of hair. Their thing I guess. Sorry if I don’t find it all that newsworthy if the theatrics for this week involve occupying the parliament building.

It is "politics as normal" here on the island.
This "occupy the Yuan" was completely sponsored by the DPP - the opposing party.
This is a pure theater move by the DPP made in opposition to:
1 - the current KMT party
2 - the recent cross-straits trade package that just passed committee
3 - the current lack of a viable DPP candidate for the highly visible Taipei Mayor position
4 - just to shpw that they can "rally the troops" (read - young brains of mush and their minders)
What you are seeing is chaos - planned chaos. Done under the guise of KMT opposition.
But, one has to wonder who would benefit from this chaos?
I do not think the answer is 'the Taiwanese people.'
