Heineken Joins Sam Adams in Boycotting St. Patrick's Day Parade

Last week, Boston Beer Company (the makers of Samuel Adams Lager) decided to pull their sponsorship from the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Boston, and it looks like Heineken is doing the same in New York for Monday's celebrations. Related Irish PM Urged To Support St Paddy's Day LGBT Negotiations

A Boston based LGBT group has called on Prime Minister of Ireland Enda Kenny to support negotiations with the organisers of the second largest Saint… Read…

Both brewing companies are doing so to support LGBT community members, after parade organizers ever-so-benevolently allowed LGBT members to march in the parade, but banned them from using any and all signage about sexual orientation. Gay rights groups have reached out to various authorities including Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny to put their foot down, and a couple have. Boston mayor Marty Walsh did not attend the parade, and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio does not appear to be attending tomorrow's parade.

A Heineken spokesperson told CNBC, "We believe in equality for all. We are no longer a sponsor of Monday's parade."

The decision to pull the sponsorship has been lauded by gay rights activists. GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis also praised the decision:

"Heineken sent the right message to LGBT youth, customers and employees who simply want to be part of the celebration."

If that's the way they feel about it I won't be drinking their products.

Unfortunately, I’d lost my taste for Heineken well over a decade ago. They won’t feel my boycott. Sam Adams already is. I’m sure they notice. ;-)

Who are these cowardly companies appeasing, chablis-swilling pickle sniffers? Must be the beer-guzzling bull dykes.

Bye bye Sammies.

Great that so many other fine options exist.

Churches need to run floats expressing their views in gay parades.

No doubt these gay run union corps will back up Christians when they are denied being able to participate in gay Parades.

Heineken in my area became a status symbol for blacks years ago (I guess they viewed it as an exclusive import); I rarely see people drink it (in the places I would frequent).

This is the equivalent of Colt 45 boycotting the parade...

LOL.

The question is which company (Heineken, Guinness, Sam Adams) will be first to come out with a bottle shaped like a butt plug/dildo?

This is begging for a Photoshop.

Have we seriously gotten to the point where people can’t enjoy anything without a bunch of whiners belching and farting about their politics?

Well, well, well...Heineken and Sam Adams have joined the perverts. They’ll just have to do without my business.

Sad about Sam and Guinness going in with the feltcher crowd. If somebody else’s sex life is none of my business, why do I have to keep hearing about it? Just what is a gay firefighter organization and other than their preferred method of personal, private behavior, what do they do differently than straight firefighters?

Never was interested in Heinekens (heinies? hmmm)

Was looking forward to trying some of the SA brews when I got back to the states, as well as trying Guiness (neither is available here in India). Now? Time to start researching alternates.
