Republican Matt Bevin Receives Endorsement from Northern Kentucky Mayor

Saying small businesses are the country's backbone, the mayor of Newport, Ky., is endorsing Republican Matt Bevin for U.S. Senate in the upcoming primary election.

Republican Jerry Peluso was first elected mayor of the Northern Kentucky city, which sits across from Cincinnati, in 2008. He previously served on the city commission and as vice mayor.

In a news release, he says Bevin understands the challenges of running multiple businesses and how they work.

"As someone who knows firsthand about operating expenses such as insurance, taxes, utilities, and state and federal regulations, Matt Bevin will support small business by fight for their survival," Peluso says.

The nod from a Kentucky Republican official is an important in-state pick up for the Bevin campaign, which is trailing McConnell by double-digits in most polls. Bevin has support from over a dozen Tea Party groups in the state and outside groups like the Senate Conservatives Fund and FreedomWorks.

"I am honored by Mayor Peluso's endorsement and support of our campaign efforts in northern Kentucky," Bevin said in a statement. "I appreciate all he does for small businesses in Newport. I'm honored to have this lifelong Kentuckian's support and grateful that he's joining our team."

Just out of curiosity, are there plans for any Republican debates in this contest? Perhaps there are Kentuckians who can enlighten me here. Seems to me that Bevin getting Yertle the Turtle on the record couldn’t hurt his chances.

Wondering why Bevin and other tea party challengers have not appeared on Mark Levin’s show yet....

Population of Newport, KY in 2010 was 15,273. Well, every little bit helps; and, Newport is the county seat of Campbell County. The only thing endorsements do is get your name in the local news (papers and local TV stations) for a day. But, I repeat: Every little bit helps.

You’re kidding; right? Bitch McConnell would never lower himself to debate a “nobody” of a candidate who has no chance of defeating him. He’s busy, in Washington, taking care of the people of the United States.....

Actually, he won’t debate because that always helps the challenger. Let Bevin stand-up to McConnell and even just hold his own, and he wins the Debate and the Election. So, a Debate will never happen.

Unless Palin endorses Bevin, it sounds like the guy is done. Even if she endorsed him now, it might be too late in the game.

Anybody catch Mitch last night on Greta? He was bald faced campaigning. It was pathetic. The guy is an embarrassment and yet I predict he will be the new majority leader of the Senate. The new Harry Reid making sure no decent legislation makes it to the floor for a vote.

Right across from Cincinnati. Former Senator Bunning’s neck of the woods.

The family of President Zachary Taylor used to own most of what’s now Newport. (I know because President Taylor is in my bloodlines.)

No kidding! Remember when they dug him up in the early 90’s based on that writer’s poison allegations? I still have the newspaper clippings.

“For most of the primary battle Bevin has mercilessly attacked McConnell’s record for not being conservative enough with Tea Party groups by his side.

That makes this endorsement all the more intriguing given Peluso was a lifelong Democrat until he switched parties in 2009, saying he is a moderate on some issues. Three years ago, the Newport mayor endorsed Democratic Governor Steve Beshear’s re-election campaign, saying the governor was “doing an outstanding job.”

And in December 2013, Peluso appeared to side with Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’s in support a minimum wage hike.”

McConnell may attempt to use Peluso’s endorsement as a negative against Bevin. Bevin needs to be ready to return fire.

Glenn Beck has had him on a few times, now.

He also had Rand Paul on and hammered him about his Midge endorsement. Talk about a whiney response....”well, he asked me to endorse him when nobody else was challenging him”....whaaaaambulance time.

There is some talk that Sarah Palin will step in and endorse Bevin, but if you have watched Palin’s style, she likes to endorse late in the race... Kinda makes it appear that she

The Kentucky Republican Primary is May 20th... Watch her jump in the last week in April... A little later than those of us who want McConnell retired might like, but as its been said here - “every little bit helps”

Remember folks, even though we are not in Kentucky, we get to vote with a small contribution... http://mattbevin.com/bevin-brigade

The Peluso family has long been a power player in Newport/Covington and Northern Kentucky politics. Johnny “TV” Peluso was Mayor of Newport for life back in the `60s, `70s and early `80s.
