"The Five" are for legalizing Marijuana
March 13, 2014

Posted on 03/12/2014 3:19:06 PM PDT by NKP_Vet

Was just watching the show and they played a clip of Rick Perry saying that Texas has lowered fines for first time offense for marijuana use. So far he has not said he would legalize it. So the members went around the table and all but Beckel (recovering addict) said they were for legalizing marijuana. Dana Pirino said Texas might as well legalize it because Texans are coming into Colorado to legally smoke the stuff. She also said that if a republican wants to get a hand in an audience full of hipsters all they have to say is they are for legalizing marijuana. Guess that's the in thing now with some of these RINOs. They can all say they are "libertarian" when it comes to frying your brains on dope. So that's Gillfoyle, Pirino, the midget Gutfeld and Mr. Perfect Bohling, all saying they want to see more dope legalized. I'll post the link as soon as it's out. All four of this fakes call themselves conservatives. Prety bad when lefty Bob Beckel take the conservative position on legalizing dope.

Studies show that heavy marijuana users, particularly those who use it in their teen years, have a high rate of psychological problems

And the same with heavy use of alcohol.

That’s fine, but are we going to pass an amendment that authorizes the government to outlaw it? Or are we just going to keep pretending that it’s not an overreach because we don’t like pot?

Marijuana is abused by most users.

I can't speak for JR, but he wrote the following ca. 1998/1999 =>

A return to a strictly Constitutional form of federal government will automatically repeal and abolish all unconstitutional federal involvement in states issues such as: crime, health, education, welfare and the environment. The Tenth Amendment will again be in effect, which will bar all federal attempts at legislating social issues.

“Not so fast, my friend! (as Lee Corso says) One can enjoy an adult beverage without getting buzzed or drunk. The sole purpose of drugs is to change the brain and mood of the user.”

I can only think of a single person I know that drinks, but doesn’t get buzzed or drunk. The people that I know who don’t want those effects usually don’t drink at all.

Now, I know a lot of people that do drink who think that they never get drunk, but that’s just their imagination.

I think it should be further decriminalized but not legalized. Big difference.

isn’t it basically just like beer and whiskey?

I don’t know from personal experience, but it is my understanding that today’s pot is a whole lot more potent than the stuff when I was growing up.

Most sodomites and dykes are everyday dope smokers.

Love to see the stats on this.

In my experience, it's rednecks and wifebeaters who abuse alcohol and decide it's great fun to take a swing at the nearest target.(I'm an reckneck and former alcoholic so I can say this)

Not claiming this is a fact, but I have a friend whose a cop and his big complaint is dealing with drunks, whether breaking up drunken brawls, domestic abuse or scraping up their remains after plowing into oncoming traffic.

Potheads tend to be low on their list(does not include dealers) And they are the easiest to spot....They are the ones who are driving way too slow

“this ?

How does that apply ?”

Ok, let me try to explain. There was no authorization in the Constitution, as it was written, for the Federal government to regulate drugs, alcohol, or anything along those lines. That’s why, when there was a push for alcohol prohibition, everyone knew that an amendment had to be passed to grant the government that authority.

This all changed with the Wickard decision, because the Supreme Court found a way to justify expanding the power of the Federal government to regulate almost anything. They claimed that this justification lay in the Interstate Commerce clause of the Constitution, which had previously only been interpreted as simply allowing the Feds to step in and mediate disputes between the states in matters of commerce.

The case involved a wheat farmer who disobeyed a federal limit on wheat production. The farmer claimed that the wheat was for his own personal use, so the federal government had no authority to regulate it, since it would never cross a state border. The Supreme Court decided that, since the mere production of wheat for personal use could reduce demand, and affect the market price of wheat in other states, that this was enough of a connection to interstate commerce to allow the feds to butt in and tell the farmer what he could grow on his own land, for his own use.

This has been expanded in the years since to justify drug prohibition and all sorts of other expansions of the Federal government, at the expense of the rights of the states and the people.

How about heavily taxing legal pot to fund social service agencies like the dept of childrens services cause druggies with children will eventually neglect and harm them.

Not to worry, it has already been done to the folks who enjoy tobacco products.

It’s funny to me that, the people who hate pot smokers the most, and seemingly would avoid them at all costs, seem to be so certain what the typical pot smokers are like. I used to smoke, and still know quite a few people who do smoke. I don’t hang out with many gays or lesbians, but the few who I run across don’t seem to be potheads. If they do drugs, stuff like coke and ecstasy are more in their ballpark.

Out of the people I know who do smoke, a few are typical hippie leftist types, but they are not the majority, because smokers really seem to run the gamut. They do tend to lean left in general, but I know Republicans, business owners, survivalists, ex-marines, soccer moms, and even police officers that do it. People would be surprised if everyone was as open about it as people are about drinking alcohol.

Considering what I’ve seen of the average IQ level of Americans in my life, I wouldn’t be surprised whatsoever. Lots and lots of idiots out there, and yes in roles like military and police and company owners.

Most of the pot smokers I knew were back when we were teenagers and most of us grew out of it(teenage rebellion thing, I guess)
Not familiar with homosexuals but a lot of what I know is from news articles and the popular press. Mortality stats I remember are very low, around the low forties and due to a number of things, but marijuana abuse seems far fetched, probably equal to tobacco smokers, IIRC.
Alcoholism runs rampant in my family(I’m a reformed alcoholic), and lots of friends and former classmates have alcohol related problems.

But pot use? Not so much.

Again, no official data, just observations....

States deal with offenses caused on their roads. I am not talking about the federal government, who have nothing to do with laws of a state. When I said government I meant state governments.

How about crack and meth? Why stop with weed?

Nobody should face a prison sentence for possessing the wrong plant, medicine, or recreational substance.

Authoritarians flourish on the left and right sides of the political spectrum.

All too often, it just seems to me like a pissing contest over whose flavor of Tyranny will prevail.

No thanks. I'll take big, scary, challenging, imperfect Freedom, warts and all...

Thank you so much for your very kind words about me, which are actually way too generous. I learn a lot from you, dearest re_nortex, but that’s the beauty of FR: we learn from one another.

I am totally against the legalization of drugs, including marijuana. Look at the party in favor of it, which is the same party trying to take complete control of our medical profession and our own medical choices. Easy to control a population on drugs, particularly the younger ones. Hey man, anything goes!

I’ve personally seen the harmful effects of drugs within my own family. No thanks. The road back is costly and tough on everyone involved. It takes a lot of work and lot of prayer and it’s only possible through Him.

I look and see a rotten band-aid. Most pot isn’t stopped anyhow. I say better to get out of the state of denial and pro-actively go to the Lord instead of treating Him like the emergency doctor you hope you never need to see! Then maybe far fewer will even WANT to misuse the things in the creation. Even Paul warned about the regulations about things “that perish with use.” That has an “appearance of wisdom” (but isn’t wisdom).

I truly appreciate the kindness of your response and you know how very highly I think of you.

To the heart of this matter, I totally agree with both you as well as President Reagan and his darling wife Nancy when it comes to drugs. As I posted earlier in this thread (#56), President Reagan's First Lady made it clear that Americans should be "unyielding and inflexible in your opposition to drugs". I concur completely.

I'll also add that I try -- but too often fail -- to act properly when asking "how would I behave if Christ were right here in the flesh?" Of course, Our Lord and Savior is always present and watches each one of us. But thinking of His physical presence here and now is why I simply can't tolerate drug use. I'm not trying to flippant here, but if anyone can convince me with a sincere argument that Jesus Christ would be happy with anyone smoking marijuana, I'd be willing to listen. I know not the specifics of what awaits us in the Lord's Heaven, but I doubt that drugs will be part of Paradise.
