I’m surprised more people don’t support reform for this; the fact that there is a threshold at all means the business community has placed a de facto cap on many people’s earnings while retaining the right to work them to death. Unpaid overtime has always been a way for an employer to screw workers; I like seeing companies forced to pay out when it is determined they were supposed to be paying people OT for years but didn’t.
If workers continuously feel screwed, they’ll continuously vote Democrat; we’re going through our own communist revolution now in response to the dire straits many Americans feel themselves in.
If they want overtime they can get a different job. Businesses budget a certain amount for salaries. They’ll just limit hours or fire people. If they can’t succeed without the labor they’ll change business models or go out of business. Either way the overtime leaches will be on unemployment.
I would like to see the government stay the heck out of it all together. Plus this should require legislation not some EO. “forcing companies to pay out” sounds fascist to me. The main problem is not companies but rather government. Competition will sort out pay issues if government would just get out of the way.
