http://www3.blogs.rollcall.com/rothenblog/the-race-democrats-cant-afford-to-lose/

“In her Dec. 25 online fundraising report, Sink showed total contributions of $1.43 million, with just more than $1 million in the bank. In his late December report, Jolly showed just under $142,000 on hand, while Peters reported less than $18,000 in the bank.”

In December it was the race democrats can’t afford to lose... but I like your take better:From a bellwether to an “oh-whateverrrr” in less than a single news cycle...lol!

Sink never voted for obamacare. This means its negative potency extends to all RATS, even in open seats. This will also help dem donors to close their wallets for 2014 and energize GOP money. This is GREAT news<

You're right - it's great news... see tag...

Democrat wins by 2% - "It's a Mandate !!!" Republican wins by 2% "It's a squeaker with no wider implications."

One more time Iron - it's that good...

We need to begin every Republican win with “it’s a WIN for AMERICANS”...STOP the divide here and lets agree to back our guy until the Primary is over, and then REALLY BACK OUR GUY against HILLARY in 2016.

I think the key is to get a solid CONSERVATIVE TO STAND UP NOW-TODAY and begin building his momentum (NO, I don’t think Sarah is running and should not on the top of the ticket). Her role needs to be energy Secretary in the cabinet.
My dream team is President Ted Cruz and Vice President Alan West. 2 GREAT PATRIOTIC AMERICANS - THAT IS WHAT AMERICA NEEDS to lead this great country!

But didn’t obama win last two elections?

Yes.

Also, Sink carried this district (the county is the district) in her failed gubernatorial bid.

And even though the seat was held by a republican for many years, Pinellas county is quite liberal and democrat Sink was expected to win.

The county is home to the old St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) one of the most liberal newspapers in the nation. The editors there never met a democrat they couldn't gladly endorse.

But I thought that the damage done by Obamacare would throw the election to republican Jolly and by a fairly good margine.
He did take the win but not by as much as I had hoped.

I would have liked to see a clearer signal from voters that Obamcare was not just a factor, but a huge factor.

It has only been a solid R district because the deceased congressman had been in office for decades. The district is only +1% Republican and the Democrat running has run in several races and won statewide office before. Her name recognition (Sink) is high.

Sink was given a slight advantage by the political pros (due primarily to name recognition and spent more on ads), but all knew it would be close and could go either way.

As National Review stated several days ago, that November is not going to be all Obamacare, there are other issues people care about. As this race shows, Obamacare is not the magic winning formula you may think it is.

I do not understand how people misunderstand the concept of conceding. There is nothing legal or final about it. Conceding a race is nothing more than graciously congratulating the winner. That's it - nothing more.

Sink could concede the race tonight and then, by golly, thousands of votes could materialize overnight in her favor and she would be declared the winner, even if she spent hours congratulating the winner and wishing him the best (conceding).

The winner of the election is the one with the most votes. It is no more complicated than that. Concession speeches mean nothing.

Conceding the race has no legal implications. See the above post.

Interesting. Sink beats the Scott in the county by nearly six points, and then loses to a presumably weaker candidate (Jolly) by two points just two years later.

This is BIG and bodes well for November 4, 2014. Get out the Vote! Start now!

CBS did a report on it tonight, before the results were in. They said it was a test for Ocare also. I think they were expecting to report different results.

It would help if he addressed that during interviews live on air. It would help a LOT if they all would whenever it happens.

“Before we get to your question Mary I am curious as to why you personally reported this as a bellweather election for weeks and suddenly changed your attitude on air about this after I won?”

Much too close considering that Alex Sink backs Obamacare and this has been a solid republican seat for over 40 years.

It's a district that voted for Obama twice and voted for Sink when she ran for governor.

It was only a Republican seat because one Republican that died had held it for 42 years.

If anyone saw her tv ad campaign, it was all about “bringing Democrats and Republicans together for the common good.”

Why is it that when that happens, the only 'good' that ever happens is for Democrats?

I would have liked to see a clearer signal from voters that Obamcare was not just a factor, but a huge factor.

The liberal and gay vote is still strong. They love their leader in Washington and still turn out to support the movement. I am not local but saw friends and area businesses going all in for Sink. The left is not suppressed. We are winning over more in the middle, but the turnout on the left remains high.

The GOPe candidate beat a Dem after he beat the Tea Party candidate in the primary backed by Col. Allen West.

It happened, that’s fine, but I have no emotional connection to this and am not being drawn in.

A Romney, Boehner type Republican named David Jolly wins over a Dem by a close margin, more than enough justification for Jolly to vote more liberal ahead of the election this fall,
