As stated on another thread, the phones do not ring, it is the network giving the caller feedback while a connection is attempted.

Following phone activity is a dead end in this investigation. The hijackers anticipated this and took a route that would not enable cell communications, or they jammed all the phones. Sat phone is another story. Probably not one on the flight.

The article states the phones ring when attempting a call. and would seem to dispute that of a result of the cell system. According to this story, nineteen families have had the passengers cell phones ring, followed by what appears to be the phone hanging up and as a result have given the phone numbers to the Chinese government for investigation.

Within a matter of time, the cell phones will run out of power. Would the phones still ring as is reported what they do now as stated by relatives? Or will there be what has been described as 'network feedback'?
