McCain: Cruz’s Criticism of Bob Dole Crossed a Line (Good Lord!)

Sen. John McCain said Friday he told Sen. Ted Cruz that the Texas Republican’s criticism of former Majority Leader Bob Dole in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference crossed a line.

In an interview on MSNBC, McCain said he confronted Cruz on the Senate floor about the freshman’s CPAC comments from Thursday, in which Cruz called out Dole, McCain and Mitt Romney — the party’s last three unsuccessful presidential nominees.

“I spoke to Ted Cruz — he and I have a cordial relationship — about this, and he can say what he wants about me, and he can say anything he wants to, I think, about Mitt,” the Arizona Republican said. “But when he throws Bob Dole in there, I wonder if he thinks that Bob Dole stood for principle on that hilltop in Italy when he was so gravely wounded and left part of his body there fighting for our country? Bob Dole is such a man of honor and integrity and principle.”

Dole was severely wounded on the battlefield during World War II. He recovered from his war injuries along with fellow future Sens. Philip Hart of Michigan and Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii. McCain noted Dole’s current health condition during the TV interview.

Cruz, a potential White House contender in 2016, was the first speaker at the three-day conference of conservative activists held just outside the Beltway at National Harbor, Md.

“Of course, all of us remember President Dole and President McCain and President Romney,” Cruz said at CPAC. “Now look, those are good men. They’re decent men, but when you don’t stand and draw a clear distinction; when you don’t stand for principle, Democrats celebrate.”

McCain can do this because he was just voted the most popular senator in the USA.

Oh, wait a minute...

Dole’s military service in the 1940’s had nothing to do with his run for President in 1996. McCain is once again running off the reservation. He is an egomaniac who should have been tried and convicted for influence peddling during the 1990’s (Keating S&L affair). Unfortunately George H.W. Bush’s Justice Department didn’t want to deal with the spectacle of prosecuting America’s astronaut hero John Glenn so all of the” Keating 5” Senators, got a pass for their criminal activity.

Obviously Cruz lives inside McCain’s head. In his heart McCain probably knows Cruz could beat Hillary in 2016. He (McCain) can’t stand the young upstart Cruz receiving applause and attention without playing by the rules of the Senate Club.

The only good thing that came out of Dingy Harry’s getting rid of the 60 vote cloture rule is that it makes McCain and all the other RINO pukes no longer relevant. They are no longer needed and the press doesn’t follow them or make them important.

So they now only get covered if they bash other conservatives.

The only thing that crossed the line is McCain’s meds. They are below the level needed to keep him sane.

“I spoke to Ted Cruz — he and I have a cordial relationship"

That, McStain, is because Senator Cruz is a gentlemen, even when talking to traitorous scum, like you McStain.

"...I wonder if he thinks that Bob Dole stood for principle on that hilltop in Italy when he was so gravely wounded and left part of his body there fighting for our country? Bob Dole is such a man of honor and integrity and principle.”

I am sure we all believe Dole fought bravely and honorably and he is a Great War Hero. BUT I FAIL to see the relevance when 50 years later he ran for President that Dole and failed to put together a principled message or even a good campaign. After Dole lost he went on Leno and other appearances and did a great job communicating his life and message. I recall many people remarking that if they would have known THAT Dole they would have voted for him.....

It’s time for Ted to destroy more than one “line”. Repub RINOS please don’t give me another stupid RINO. Will the party of Stupid wake up and support a candiate that actually has core beliefs? I don’t want to see Karl Rove, Jeb Bush, Christie and any such ilk on my TV again. Cruz or possibly Rand Paul. Don’t promise to give the harlots free birth control. Don’t expand benefits to this already sick socialist nation. Cut taxes and make people fend for themselves. That’s how it was done in the past. Anybody getting a gov’t check should wear a scarlet “G” on their clothes!

It crossed a line? Like those red lines Obamaramadingdong likes or like the lines that Mclame constantly crosses while belittling and insulting actual Conservative that don’t bow down to his insanity?

I wouldn't be surprised if McCain verbally abuses Cindy McCain.

I can't stand the old fool!

McCain became dead to me when he didn’t train his fire power on his own consultants who shot Sarah Palin in the back. She defends him (that’s class). He doesn’t. That’s all I have to see.

Someone should get the butterfly net and put him in a quiet corner.

I think it was a Freeper who met him and said he seems to have Asperger’s or something - mentally off.

McCain never has anything good to say about a conservative. He attacks them over and over. Cruz said Dole was “a good man”. McCain should just shut up.

By the way, where is Sarah Palin when McCain attacks conservatives? After the way McCain's staff back stabbed her throughout the 2008 campaign you would think she would stand up for conservatives at least once.

One of the many problems of today’s Republican party is that the losers think they have something valuable to contribute.

I am tired of the warrior card. It does not make them a better servant of the people. Just because you served does not give you a pass on being a crappy politician. I honor their military record and service but that does not translate to being good for this country in office. John Murtha was a Marine and I still despise him. Semper Fi.
