Keen grasp of the obvious here. DST was invented for dairy farmers who milked by hand and had no electric light.

The THEORY is that IF EVERYTHING ELSE REMAINS THE SAME, then we will save energy.

Of course, nothing else remains the same.

It's exactly like the freeway bypasses in the 1960's.

The THEORY was that Loop 410 would provide a quick way around the city, away from the traffic.

The PRACTICE was that a whole lot of businesses and houses were built around Loop 410, so that now, that's where all the traffic is.

Paging the Aw Jeez guy.

We’ve not had a moan and groan thread on DST since... well, since the last time we changed the clocks.

It’s a big scam, just like almost everything else the government busybodies dream up.

Daylight Saving Time does cause disruptions in sleep and routines, though, cutting productivity, and its use to move more money to tourist areas has dissolved.

Tourism is nearly dead because of the insane laws and policies of tourist locales using environmentalist and animal worship as excuses for officious thefts and robberies. Related real estate is dead because of all of the schemes used to inflate it along with insane, expensive regulations, tax hikes and other tax hikes in tourist areas (impact fees, building fees, engineering fees, etc.).

The trouble with that extra hour of daylight in the afternoon is that it burns the grass! I vote we repeal the act. :)

“It turns out that more daylight gives us more time to shop, drive, grill and perfect our golf game. What it doesn’t do is cut our energy use...”

If we could only con the Leftists into believing that DST causes global warming, since mankind was gracious enough to let the Sun shine a little longer than in times past, we could get rid of it in no time flat!

...we lose an hour’s sleep at 2 a.m. on ***March*** 9...

...the federal law was amended to add a full month to DST, making it begin the first, not the last, Sunday in ***April***.

Huh?

Vote for me and we will have “Weekend Saving Time” where the clocks are turned back an hour on Saturday midnight and then tuned forward an hour Monday at 9 AM.

I have always thought that the government mandate that I set all my timepieces to the *wrong* time each and every year was absolutely ridiculous.

Even the title of this silly yearly ritual, Daylight Savings Time, is ridiculous, because of course, setting clocks to the *wrong* time does NOT save any daylight.

A long time ago (mid 1980s), as one Spring DST approached, I decided: “I’m not doing this stupid thing anymore.” Ever since then, I have set all manual timepieces under my control to the correct standard time all year round.

What I find very sad is that *so many* people act like mindless sheep and follow this ridiculous government mandated ritual every year. There are much better ways to achieve the claimed benefits of getting off an hour earlier from work or school without mandating something so stupid as setting every clock to the *wrong* time… like just freely allowing business and schools to have a “summertime” hours of operation schedule. So many businesses and other entities have freely and for practical reasons adapted seasonal hours of operation that it really is totally unnecessary for government to impose such a stupid mandate.
