Maybe it’s time to revive the “Golden Fleece Awards”
Those "Golden Fleece Awards" were never really honest. They always focused on nitpickery, and ignored true fraud, waste and abuse.
The ENTIRE Department of Health and Human Services is fraud, waste, and abuse.
The ENTIRE Department of Education is fraud, waste, and abuse.
The ENTIRE Social Security program is fraud, waste, and abuse.
The ENTIRE AFDC/WIC/TANF/etc programs are fraud, waste, and abuse.
Just for a start ...
Until we are willing to eliminate whole programs, whole departments, even Cabinet level departments, we will continue to throw taxpayer money down the toilet by the trillions of dollars. Algae fuel research by the Navy is stupid ... but it's not the real problem.
