Susan ‘Medea’ Benjamin announced on Twitter Monday night she is being held in a jail cell at the Cairo, Egypt airport:
“I’m being held in a jail at Cairo airport!!!”
Benjamin is in Egypt to lead a delegation of activists to Hamas-led Gaza to mark International Women’s Day later this week.
Code Pink has a history of working with the Muslim Brotherhood to overthrow the Egyptian government of former President Hosni Mubarak as well as other terrorist groups and state sponsors of terrorism.
Medea Benjamin appeared at ease as she walked around Tahrir Square and handed out roses during the anti-Mubarak protests in 2011.

Code Pink and the far left has had a long relationship with the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood terror group. They held a joint anti-Mubarak protest together back in 2008.
Code Pink also works with President Barack Obama and leading elected Democratic Party officials.
Benjamin said she borrowed a cellphone to send out tweets and photos from her cell. She complained about the food and water.
Code Pink national organizer Alli McCracken relayed messages between Benjamin and other Code Pink leaders. One message was from Ann Wright, who is slated to be part of the delegation to Gaza, advising to not inform the press so as to allow the other delegates to fly in to Cairo unmolested by the Egyptian government: “also Ann says we should wait to alert the press until the next wave of the delegation has gone in. is that ok?”
(Update): Code Pink put out a tweet on the group’s official Twitter feed stating Benjamin was not arrested, but was being detained:
“Folks, @medeabenjamin has not been arrested, but detained in Cairo airport cell 2 prevent her from going to #Gaza. Details to come.”
MSNBC will be all over this.
CodePink’s latest tweet advises: “For any press inquires related to @medeabenjamin being forcibly detained & deported from Egypt, call CP press person Alli at 860 575 5692.”
Earlier toeay they tweeted: “Update: @medeabenjamin is in Istanbul, where she was deported to, headed to hospital to receive treatment for shoulder. Flying to US tonight.”

CAIRO: Egypt on Tuesday deported an American anti-war activist who was trying to travel to the Gaza Strip, airport officials and the activist herself said....
....She told AFP airport police broke her arm during her detention before putting her on a flight to Istanbul.
“I arrived yesterday (Monday). They took me out of customs, held me overnight, threw me on the floor, and broke my arm. Two policemen jumped on me and broke my arm,” she said in a telephone conversation aboard her flight.
An airport official said Benjamin “dislocated her shoulder,” without elaborating.
No doubt. This will take priority, for the LSM, over Ukraine, Israel, etc, etc

Calling from Istanbul, Benjamin gave the following statement: “I was brutally assaulted by Egyptian police, who never said what I was being accused of. When the authorities came into the cell to deport me, two men threw me to the ground, stomped on my back, pulled my shoulder out of its socket and handcuffed me so that my injured arm was twisted around and my wrists began to bleed. I was then forced to sit between the two men who attacked me on the plane ride from Cairo to Istanbul, and I was (and still am) in terrible pain the whole time.” Doctors in the Cairo airport said she was not fit to travel because of her injury, but the authorities forced her to board anyways.
She is currently in Istanbul, Turkey, receiving medical attention at a hospital before she returns to the US. It is still unclear why the Egyptians deported her. Medea’s colleagues at CODEPINK are appalled by the unnecessary use of force by Egyptian authorities.

Russia saw a vacuum and stepped in with military assistance. As we turn our back on our only ally left in the Near East - Israel - our influence in the area has diminished to near nil.
Watching the on-going violence in Egypt it becomes easy to see why Hosni Mubarak used such a heavy hand to keep the peace. Washington refused to be a part of such social control so now it is Russia -- becoming the new super power in the world.
All you guys and Trooprally and Heather are the best! Hubby and tried to be ther at Walter Reed when we could, but were there in spirit when we couldn’t!
And being there in spirit can’t be overstated. The people who stood in the biting cold rain and sweltering hot summer days knew there were many more such as yourself who were there every Friday night in spirit. It mattered. It mattered to the people who participated and it matter to the true heroes that came back from town on the bus in the evening. God bless.
