Radio Host Michael Savage Designated As American Spokesman for Vladimir Putin Fan Club

Radio host Michael Savage has trumped Matt Drudge's notorious tweet from last year that Vladimir Putin is the "leader of the free world." Savage on Thursday on WMAL in Washington, D.C. claimed the freedom fighters in Ukraine are neo-Nazis and his guest, former conservative Paul Craig Roberts, alleged that American neo-cons are secret Israelis provoking Russia.

I have difficulty buying the neo-Nazi line.

The peg, or McGuffin, for that line is the fact that thousands of Ukrainian ex-Red Army POW's rallied to the Germans behind Gen. Vlassov when Hitler invaded Russia. Ukraine had suffered mortally (millions of dead) just a few years before, at the hands of Stalin and the NKVD.

Numbers of these Ukrainians of Vlassov's army were in the trenches in Normandy when the Allies came ashore. Their uniforms were German regulation, except that they wore black garrison caps that identified them as Ukrainians.

After the war, they were sent back to the Russians (this was Alger Hiss's work, I read somewhere, and one of the most shameful episodes of the Second World War), who promptly executed every last one of them.

Any Nazi-Ukrainian connection from that time has been dead a very long time. Stepan Bandera's late-40s insurrection was connected instead to the CIA (which was compromised by the homosexual KGB superspy at the top of MI-6's Soviet Desk, the notorious H.A.R. "Kim" Philby), and Bandera was assassinated in Germany in, um, about 1954 by a KGB goon armed with an electric gun that shot poison crystals. But not before the Russians had to fight a brigade-sized pitched battle with tanks against the independence-minded Ukrainians.

Talk radio can be nasty. I heard Dennis Miller, who is normally quite nice, cut short a caller making a philosophical point because he thought it would bore or confuse listeners, I guess.

Savage called Ted Cruz a snake a few weeks ago. That was it for me.

On a different day, in a different mood, Savage will praise people like Eric Hoffer.

Yeah, Batchelor doesn’t go around saying that women he disagrees with should be managing brassiere stores.

Does anybody here think that Savage( or other hosts for that matter) read the Free Republic forums?

I wonder if its the same blue box itch cream that George Noory has been shilling for?

People who have been listening to Savage carefully know that he’s been relying more and more heavily on Alex Jones’ sites and people associated with Jones. I’m sure that this isn’t the first 911 Truther who’s been on his show. He also hosted some of the most questionable birthers, such as Orly Taitz. Savage doesn’t really need these fringy types, though. He’s capable if cranking out plenty of questionable material on his own. Practically every show he garbles some fact, about firearms, food safety, you name it. From where I sit, he appears to have some of the worst show prep in all of talk radio.

managing brassiere stores

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You raise a couple of questions. You say he has had on Orly Taitz as one of the more questionable birthers. Has he had on any birthers who are not questionable?

I have not listened to him for that long but I agree that he seems to garble things frequently. He brags a lot that he broaches subjects that others do not. Do you agree with that?

If the latter is true does that mean that he raises topics well but does not execute upon them well?>

Why do you think that he feels a compulsion to so frequently attack other conservative radio talk show hosts? >

Do you think he has any justified criticism of other hosts or is it just egotism?

That’s a lot of essay questions. I may not answer them in order.
I think that his reasons for attacking other hosts have already been brought up by others here at different times—jealousy, insecurity, trying to provoke the other hosts, shaming listeners out of switching to, say, Levin. Sometimes it’s a joke that’s gotten out of hand and become mean-spirited. I think that the talk radio leaders do need to be taken to task from time to time, and not just by people like Obama, who will do it for partisan political reasons. If Savage didnt get so mean-spirited about it, I’d think it was a worthwhile service and this is one of the reasons I used to listen to him. For example, Rush has off days and has used some bad judgement, and I’m not talking about Sandra Fluke. I think that it was OK for Savage to bring up the problems with Hannity’s Freedom concerts. Nobody else seemed to want to. It’s not OK for him to endlessly pick on Hannity for how his pants fit, where he went to school, and other personal stuff.
I am racking my brain to think of other birthers who have been on Savage. A Hillary supporter named Berg was on Medveds show I think, but don’t know if he’s been on Savage. I don’t remember if Jerome Corsi is a birther or if he’s been on Savage. I don’t know if Trump is a birther, but he certainly has been on Savage, and my thoughts on his most recent appearance have been expressed in this forum.
I would say that yes, he does raise topics well, but doesn’t always execute them well.
As far a raising new and different topics, compared to what? It’s true that people won’t probably be talking about near-death experiences on Limbaugh, but they might on Dennis Prager and its bread and butter on Coast to Coast. Then there are the topics not being discussed by other hosts and perhaps with good reason. Jody Arias? I know a lot of people were put off by a circumcision story a few months back. One I am fond if bringing up is the documentary “Unclaimed”. This was about a missing Viet Nam veteran who had turned up after 44 years. The only trouble was, the guy had pretty much been exposed as a con artist by the time Savage picked up on the story. I felt that he really insulted the audiences intelligence with that one. Then there are the stories he doesn’t do. For example the Justina Pelletier case has been going on for over a year and has a lot of the elements Savage likes, yet as far as I know, he hadn’t covered it. I heard about it from Glenn Beck, who Savage used to call the Hemorrhoid, until he interviewed him about his book, I think.

I've been around here for quite a while, and in that time have personally interacted with national radio hosts and other political players (including editors from Tribune, WaPo, NewsWeek, TIME, etc) on FR threads and in FReepmail.

There was a time when Drudge, Limbaugh, Tony Snow, Jonah Goldberg (and his mother Lucianne) and other media names were regular freepers, posting as themselves. I had several lengthy exchanges, very cordial, with Lucianne before she left to set up her own forum.

I've (more recently) passed messages through other freepers to some of those media people who, for obvious reasonsm don't post here under their own names.

Yes. They're here, and no, I'm not going to discuss it beyond that.

Well, now Ive heard the Jimmy from Brooklyn segment. It’s the most Savage Ive heard in a week, and I agree, pretty bad. He called him a radio screamer. I guess it’s OK to be a radio screamer on his side if the microphone.
It seems to me that he took kind of a funny position a few years back with the Russians and the deal in Georgia too. Maybe I misremember. Foreign policy, especially the Byzantine kind in that part of the world, is not my strong suit.
In one if my favorite movies, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, is a scene where Teddy and Sandy are talking about Miss Brodie’s interest in politics. This is before World War II and she is an admirer of Mussolini. Teddy explains that Jean knows nothing about politics but something to the effect that she projects her romantic notions onto world leaders. I think Putin, with his stony masculinity and ruthless toughness, brings out the Miss Jean Brodie in some people.

Thanks. Yes I heard it. I was shocked that Savage could stoop that low. I still tune in to hear the occasional good and to scoff at the rest — which means they could edit out the bad and just broadcast that fifteen minutes Savage talks about. :)

Michael Weiner claims to care about borders, language, and culture. But he has no problem with Russia violating Ukrainian sovereignty. Weiner claims to care about border, language and culture, but he invites as a guest a lunatic traitor who said that he wanted America flooded with Hispanics to destroy neoconservatives.
On top of all of that he lets PCR peddle an asinine claim that Israel is involved in Ukraine. Israel would have nothing to do with the neo-nazis in Svaboda. And I'm not sure that "neo-nazi" is fair. These are the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the SS-Galicianer they so love. And Svaboda isn't even the most anti-semitic group in Euromaidan, because they believe that Jews can become Ukranian. Right Sector and Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian National Self Defence don't. Jews may have lived in Ukraine for at least 1700 years, but are always a foreign subversive element at war with Ukranians for these people.

The conspiracy meme that I saw yesterday was that these “neo-nazis” are covert troops funded by NATO and “the Jews”.

Barking moonbats are gonna bark.
