Funny how everyone playing an AIDS patient won an Oscar.

Also funny how even though it was on for like 4 hours I only watched the last 20 minutes or so and yet still saw most of the important awards.

NOT Funny, Ellen. And did Sidney Poiter have stroke?

“Funny how everyone playing an AIDS patient won an Oscar.”

I didn’t think of it...but you’re right. What a coincidence.

Ellen: 20+ years ago, when he was starting out, I remember thinking: “That’s a dyke.” I find ZERO talent or anything to like about him. Anytime I see his face I think of yards and yards and yards of carpet of all colors.

“And did Sidney Poiter have stroke?”

He’s old. Look at one of the last movies he made, “The Jackal”, back in 1997 - he looked winded back then.

Pretty sad when something like this is actually considered “brave” and “news”

It is...

I don’t waste my time with the Freak Show that the Oscars has become.

Would much rather watch an old classic movie on Turner Classic and remember what GOOD American actors were like.

Watched Gary Cooper in “For Whom The Bell Tolls” the other night. Great old flick.

He was a great actor, the Coop...

That why I like to post movies made during the time period when the Hays Code was in effect.

Other Republican stars from that era include Gene Tierney, Joel McCrea and (I believe though I’m not completely sure) Doris Day.

I think it’s because they know the majority of blacks will still vote Democrat regardless.

“...I’m a better man now than I was, but not nearly the man I hope to be in 10 years....”

You know, that is an amazing statement, and if you don’t mind I will add it to my list of admirable quotes.

I’m with you on it, and feel the same for myself.
Thanks

I liked that movie, even in spite of the Anti-American sentiment that the writers felt compelled to put in.

The dragon CGI imagery and special effects was very well down and looked real.

The credit goes to the actor, sir, and he’d likely pass that credit to God.

All I did was repackage it, but I also resonate with it and you are welcome just the same.

I’m watching my FIL despair, thinking he’s a burden. He just hasn’t figured out what he wants to be now that he is where he is.

We all have something to contribute.

Sometimes you just have to disregard inane rantings and enjoy the movie.

I *loved* when the Americans rolled in with the heavy artillery.

:)

We, as Americans, seem to define ourselves by our work, what we’ve been, and when retirement comes, it’s tough on some folks. I’ve seen that too. It’s had to watch.
It’s a mental re-training issue.
