You are the one who keeps bullshitting.

All this Kremlin-line "selective memory" you keep bringing here, along with the worst of the worst of allegations against the Ukrainian nationalists for daring to desire being freer of Moscow.

Why not pick on the Romanians for marching with the Nazis against the Red Army, before later turning on the Nazis (after losing several Romanian divisions at Stalingrad, etc.)

How well do you know the history of that region? What of the Russian civil war that went on for years? The Whites against the Reds, the Blacks against anybody? What of the atrocities committed in all that fighting?

Payback is a real bitch when fueled by hatreds. But now you pick the Russian side of things in the Ukraine and most anywhere else too. Uh-huh. Meanwhile, Russia is one of the nations which has political prisoners. Along with China, Iran, Syria...who else? They can't handle dissenters too well.

Straight out of the Kremlim propaganda book is right. I just can't tell if you (Marguerite) are doing so by default, or if you have been sent to stir up confusion.

Good luck to you Ivan. I do hope Ukraine can find ways to peaceably continue building their own nation, including Russian speaking Ukraine citizens as one nation, with everyone finding ways to do business with all their neighbors, both West and East.

A page out of the Kremlin propaganda book in the 70s was to go to a drug infested part of an American city and call it USA. From this, the audience was to make a conclusion that US is nothing more than crumbling infrastructure, race riots and decaying western capitalism.

Similarly today, the same book tries to paint a popular revolt against a tyrant by Jews and non-Jews alike as “nazi”. Jews were standing shoulder to shoulder with those “nazis” on Maidan, but here you are, saying that you know better, that you know something they don’t.

“How well do you know the history of that region?”

Much better than you all do, over the big pond.
Grew up with them, learned Russian language - meaning can speak, write and understand “Ukrainian”, which nothing else than a Russian dialect. You rely only on twisted Kerry and Nuland propaganda on NBC and CNN.

Your hatred towards Russia blinds you as usual.
You still think Russia is Soviet Union, the big bad bear and Ukraine the white innocent lamb ...
Big mistake. Russia, as we know it, was born in Kiev, in year 800, just read some history, buddy.

“Jews were standing shoulder to shoulder with those “nazis” on Maidan”

LOL.
That’s not we read in the Israeli press, not “Kremlin’s” - from January 2014

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4478340,00.html

“Dov Ber Glickman, 30, a member of Kiev’s Jewish community, was assaulted by three youngsters as he was making his way home from a Shabbat meal ...
After knocking him to the ground, Glickman’s assailants stabbed him three times, apparently in his arms and legs...
Hillel Cohen, chairman of the Hatzalah Ukraine emergency service, told Ynet that the victim had lost a lot of blood after suffering a wound to a main artery, and had lost consciousness. Glickman required surgery...
The Shabbat attack has heightened the Kiev local Jewish community’s sense of persecution, after a Israeli Jewish teacher was beaten up at the entrance to his building last week.”

Today Western Ukraine is home to a nationalist movement and is the base of power for opposition political party Svoboda, which means freedom in Ukrainian. The group has made numerous anti-Semitic comments and has referred to Jews as “Zhids,” which roughly translates in English as “dirty Jews.”

So you answer me with PRIDE. Look sister, anyone can read history books. It's easier to do that today than at any time in history.

Huh? I don't rely on those people (I scarcely pay attention to them--and sure as hell do not rely upon any of them) though it does appear you rely upon Russian news sources -- which are all controlled by Putin's political party.

here you continue on the attack;

You fail at mind reading...but this does show just how difficult it is to discuss anything with Russian sympathizers.

It's no wonder Ukraine has such problems. Many or most of them bound up with having been under Moscovy thumb for the better part of thousand years, and all the tussling and wars over the centuries concerning who will be in control. How about everyone take a few steps back, and let the Ukrainians be their own people, for a change?

Is Putin a Russian nationalist? Of course he is. But he and all the rest of the Russian nationalists hypocritically condemn Ukrainian nationalists any way they can for they fear they will lose control of the Ukraine.

Now just who it can be who will be able to figure out how Ukraine can be a crossroads of sorts between Russia and Europe. It may be easier with Yanukovych gone, but he's still promising to be a pain in the ass in persisting on calling his own cowardice to face the music, a "coup", when it's more like he (though legally enough elected, himself) and those of the communist political block (many of who came to office under clouds of electoral corruption allegations--- sort-of like Yanukovych in 2004) displayed their own cowardice also, by not showing up to vote.

Ukraine constitution does not allow them to phone it in, or have others cast votes for those absent. So stuff it! ha.

This headline needs it's own FR thread;

James 4:1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Marguerite;
Though many Americans are ignorant of Eastern European history (they don't need to know much about it, for it never much affected them) there are more than a few who do take an interest. We have here on this forum also, Ivan who is Ukrainian -- but whom you call ignorant also? What are you Marguerite? Polish, perhaps?

Here's a link http://legalinsurrection.com/2014/01/outlook-for-ukraine-is-pretty-bleak-no-matter-who-prevails/ from a gal who was raised in Kharkov;

She goes on to briefly touch upon various aspects of what she means by that.

Would you call her ignorant also? Not all Americans get their information from CNN -- particularly those Americans you may encounter here at FreeRepublic (whom you regularly dish out broad-brush insult towards).

And protesters are responsible for this?
This took place in January when Yanukovich was still in control of Kiev and nothing like this has happened in Western Ukraine. Are protesters responsible for the one in Zaporizhya (East Ukraine) too? Why not for something that happened in Russia or France?

We’re obviously talking about two different things - I’m talking about this Ukrainian revolt, you’re about antisemitism in general.

Per column in the Jewish Journal
http://www.jewishjournal.com/opinion/article/we_care_about_ukraine1

“The time has come to forget the old Soviet propaganda myths about the Ukrainian nationalists and Ukraine in general. Ukrainians, like Jews, want to live in a country of their own where they can freely speak the Ukrainian language, where they can make a European choice and ultimately live in a country no longer under Russian dictate.
We, the Jews, care about Ukrainian independence and Ukraine people. We can say, in the time of trials, the Jews are on the side of a free and democratic Ukraine. “

Again, I’m not saying that this is where all Jews stand, but antisemitism is a not a factor in this revolt. It’s very likely that a Lviv or Kiev Jew is supporting the statement above.

If you can’t read Russian, you can try google translate the link provided earlier for the interview with the Jewish contingent on Maidan.

Below is the link from today of the Jewish embassador in Ukraine meeting the often demonized Right Sector, who claims that his group never subscribed to and denounces all forms of antisemitism.
