Faulconer wins mayor's race (San Diego Mayor)

SAN DIEGO — Republican City Councilman Kevin Faulconer defeated Democratic Councilman David Alvarez in the San Diego mayor’s race Tuesday night.

Faulconer had 55.2 percent compared to Alvarez’s 44.8 percent with 86 percent of the city's precincts counted.

A jubilant Faulconer gave a speech to his supporters about 10:40 p.m. but stopped short of declaring victory.

“We know that this city has gone through a lot in the last year, but we knew that as San Diegans that we were better than that and that we were going to come together when we had the opportunity to do that and come to together we have,” Faulconer said.

Filner was the first Dem mayor in San Diego in over 20 years. Given the taxpayers continue to pay for that colossal mistake, I would like to believe they learned from it and do not make that mistake again for at least the next 20.

Excellent.

San Diego votes GOP for Mayor more often than not.

Unfortunately that gay Republican that ran last time is running for Congress. The idea of an “openly gay” Republican Congressman leaves me uneasy.

There’s only one thing worse than an openly gay member of Congress; a closeted member of Congress susceptible to blackmail.

As a San Diego City resident I have strongly supported Faulconer as well as Demaio before him. It’s interesting that 3 weeks ago polls showed Faulconer 16 pts ahead of Alvarez.

The SD Union-Tribune strongly endorsed Faulconer as did former Republican Mayor Sanders...then the union money came pouring in!

80% of Alvarez’s money was union contributions! There were even rallies for him in Tijuana! Constant negative TV ads and within the last week the media proclaimed that Alvarez was within 1 pt of Faulconer (46/45 as I recall) and that Alvarez had the big Momentum.

I thought here we go again - It was not until the election results started rolling in Tuesday night that I began to relax as it became obvious that the point spread was not close at all.

Perhaps people finally are waking up to corrosive and corrupting effect of the Union-Democrat Politician complex. Well, at least while the memories of the effects of union money putting filthy Filner in office are fresh in their minds.

Thanks for the play by play, but I live in East County, I have seen all the same news, ads and read the same stories. I thought it interesting that yesterday on the UT's website I counted 9 Alvarez ads on their homepage. 9! And the negative TV ads were intolerable.

I think it interesting that the most recent polls called it as a virtual dead heat when it turned out to be anything but.

At any rate, the union puppet lost and he lost big. I do believe San Diegans had their fill of liberal democRATs in Filner. He was the first dem mayor San Diego had seen in 20 years. hopefully, that experiment won't be repeated any time soon. :-)

I read somewhere (I believe it was the San Diego Union Tribune but it could have been an online source) that Faulconer is pro-abortion and pro-SSM. If true, then he probably is a RINO by FR standards.

Not to my knowledge. I think Faulconer’s main campaign theme was that he was not Bob Filner nor had he ever supported Bob Filner, as Alvarez did in the early days of the sexual harassment scandal.

Glad you mentioned Jose Angel Gutierrez. Was looking through some communist literature and Sponsors Lists of various fronts and who popped out to my attention? Angel of course.

In the 1970’s he was a supporter of a Trotskyite front, the Political Rights Defense Fund, created by the Socialist Workers Party. Identified by them as “La Raza Unida Party.

This was the front that won an important court decision which literally barred the FBI from conducting surveillance on the SWP despite the fact (which the dumbassed judge deliberately ignored), that the SWP was illegally a member/affiliate of Trotsky’s “Fourth International”.

I’m sure he will show up in numerous other communist fronts and causes as I look through congressional hearings and other printed material.

Look him up on Google, www.keywiki.org, www.DiscoverTheNetwork.org, and www.Wikipedia. I’m sure you will find more enlightening materials about him.

This is good news. It proves that Republicans can win, even in places inundated with the Third-world flood, without Hispandering as the GOPe is always claiming is essential.

America-hating Raza Studies teach (1) violence, (2) undermining US ntl security, and, (3) the need for Mexico to "re-take seven states in the Southwest to make the SW a Chicano nation. "

Sounds like it came right out of Obama's life textbook.

True. OTOH conservatives (or at least Republicans) cannot always count on the previous Democratic mayor being embroiled in such a sensational scandal as Filthner was.

You are correct. San Antonio is heavily into the aberration. I don’t know which other cities but probably many. Texans in many cases are closeted socialists waiting to elect Wendy Davis.

Mayors in all of Texas, S.F. and Los Angeles are non-partisan elections. What about San Diego, is it an openly partisan election? Or is it just at Faulconer calls himslef “Republican”. I don’t know if they have party registration in CA any more, but they once did.
