Boehner backs down, says House to vote on 'clean' debt-limit hike

WASHINGTON – House Speaker John Boehner, in an abrupt shift, announced Tuesday that the House would vote on an increase in the nation's borrowing cap without any strings attached.

A senior House GOP leadership source told Fox News that the vote is expected Tuesday night.

Boehner's decision to proceed with a "clean" debt-ceiling bill amounts to a capitulation by Republicans to President Obama and Capitol Hill Democrats who argued that the GOP should not attempt to use the bill as leverage to extract concessions from the administration.

Do we want to keep the focus on Obamacare or allow Obama to use the debt ceiling vote as a shiny thing to distract people away from his “masterpiece”

Two points.

1) The debt ceiling is important in it's own right.

2) Boehner caved on Obamacare too, albeit after a couple of attempts at first eliminating it, then delaying it. But he caved and Obama not only delayed it, outside the law, and got the "credit" for doing so,

Don't sit out the primary, don't vote for any RINO, no matter how much bacon he brings to your district/state. Same thing in the elections for state office.

Cornyn isn't getting my vote in the Senate primary. He voted for the cloture that proceeded the vote to reduce veteran's retirement payments.

I need nothing other than the FACT that Cornyn saw fit to vote to confirm Hanoi John Kerry as Secretary of State and then followed that act of treason by voting to confirm Chuck U Hagel as Secretary of Defense.

I won’t even have to consider that Cornyn hasn’t seen a full fledged RINO that he would not support over a True Conservative or that he was working overtime to put a knife into the back of Senator Ted Cruz.

STEVE STOCKMAN or DWAYNE STOVALL. Either one will be a fine replacement for Cornyn.

Here are your choices:
1) Sit on your hands and let the bad guys take the field;
2) Vote for the lesser evil if that is your only chance of
avoiding a victory by the bad guys.

Problem is, that's what we've been doing. Look where it's brought us.

My ancestors didn't fight on April 19th 1775, and the first battle of Saratoga, so we could have another King. Electing RINOs in the face of an aggressive socialist in the White House, is leading right to that. Although maybe "Chairman" or "Premier, rather "King" might be a more appropriate title, or maybe "First Citizen".

Yes, so sad when a leading Boehner goes limp in the middle of no action.

Bring medical kit quick. Need a backbone transplant, Viagara, Cialis and a bottle of Suntan remover.

I notice that Mr. Investigation to Nowhere Issa was one of the few republicans voting for this bill. That cements my feeling these guys want no controversy. They don’t wish to rock the boat. They have no gonads but are a bunch of whiners and quislings.

Point taken.

Of course, we elect RINOS because we did not do a very good job qualifying them at the primary level. Most folks spend a day every few years thinking about voting, or not. My argument upthread has been that election day is too late to decide on the quality of the folks we vote for.

Further, if you do not have a candidate on the ballot that has a decent chance to win, you better at least use your vote to attempt to avoid a defeat (putting a Socialist Democrat in office). Not voting at all is surrender, as is voting for a long shot 3d candidate.

“Boehner backs down”: the most common three words in a headline dealing with the “Republican” Party

Your problem is the Texas primary voters: most are uninformed and just waiting to retain Cornball and launch George P. to the next generation of “leadership”.

As further response to your post, please indulge me with a few quick thoughts from my morning shower:

We are faced with “lesser evil” challenges every day - see police officer facing armed burglar – who do we support?

While it is true that voting for the lesser evil is still voting for evil, is there any other way on election day to gain less evil–more good?

In a 3 candidate race the issue for any prospective long shot (unelectable) voter may be how much political damage will occur during this cycle if the obviously ugly candidate prevails? If significant damage is likely (see O appointments), then this is not a time for personal statements, such a vote would make no sense.

Would a President Romney have given us more time to organize politically at the local level to find non-RINOs in order to resist the communist/totalitarian onslaught we have been facing in recent decades?
