Atlanta's Problem with White Stuff
Yahoo ^

Posted on 01/31/2014 12:42:15 AM PST by chessplayer

The ice storm that shut down Atlanta this week was a "fiasco" that was "manmade from start to finish," according to Atlanta Magazine's Rebecca Burns, writing for Politico. But we have to note that, in part, the men who made the fiasco were white ones.

Un-effing believable. The black mayor is saying it's all the weather forecasters fault, and MSNBC is blaming racist whites.

Maybe they want a nearby volcano instead. Then they can get ash of various dark colors erupted onto the streets, if not hot lava (which turns black when it cools).

It is sad what is happening to Atlanta. My parents came from there in the 30s. Many do not know that Atlanta, the city, is quite small, less then 500,000. It is landlocked by incorporated towns. The city, of course, is now run by Obots.

Yep. Everybody basically lives in the surrounding suburbs, while the actual city itself is small.

Atlanta was destroyed like every other major US city has or will be by Dem policies starting with the CRA.

http://www.frontpagemag.com/2013/robert-moon/new-study-confirms-economy-was-destroyed-by-democrat-policies/

From the no income, nothing, just anything is fine NINJA loans mandated by the DEMS who controlled both houses during the last 4 years of Bush, the above will tell the truth.

Now, once again we have the DEMS running bills up that we cannot pay, our kids cannot, and; and it is for the very same people who according to Obama- now deserve -”INCOME EQUALITY.”

We just saw what these folks did to the homes they had no means to buy, had no idea how they’d pay for the place, so; now Obama wants us to give them more.

This GIVE IS GETTING DAMN OLD. Obozzocare is one gives insurance to another and he/she pays as Obama says you owe your brother. Obama has never worked a damn day in his life. We cannot afford anymore idiots like him. AA created mandatory graduation and promotion. I saw it in 1970-72 and it is worse now. Let’s go back to -”you get what you earn.”

Not to worry. In a city, the longer the snow stays around, the closer to black it becomes.

I like your term ‘Obots’. So true when you think about it. Supporters of Obamma are indeed ‘Obots’. Their support of Obamma is automatic indeed, just like a robot. Obamma can do no wrong.

I was not into and am not into bit coins.

The part that is old is we have not learned is that folks have to want help and have to want to make the friggin effort themselves. This poor Joe or Sue needs a free house, EBT, plus this and that and 99 weeks of unemployment is not enough is BS. No more handouts/free ride.

In early January - 1973 - Atlanta was hit by a freezing rain/ice/snow strom.

It paralyzed the city for nearly a week, the roads were closed, and much of the city was without electricity. A miserable time was had by many.

But, no wimpering, no second-guesssing, no tales of woe.

You persevred.

Bad Southern Drivers

Not so fast on that one. The stuff turned to ice very quickly. The semis jacknifing and getting stuck on all of the interstates (whose drivers presumably came from all over) were a large part of the problem.

Blame?

  1. GA DOT didn't get started with the salt soon enough and got caught in the traffic jams like everyone else.
  2. The multiple school districts who normally call off school at the drop of a hat ignored the forecast.
  3. The many businesses who prevented employees from leaving until it was already too late (not physically prevented, but threatened them with job action)
  4. The state government - a big employer in downtown Atlanta that likewise didn't release employees soon enough.
  5. All of those people who migrated from the northeast and thought that they could drive on ice and got stuck

After many years in Minnesota, I moved to Des Moines. The ice is much worse and clearing the roads of snow and ice is lackadaisical at best in urban/suburban Des Moines. And of course, office-job commuters in their 4WD pickups and SUVs won’t slow down, so four wheels slide around instead of just two.

I was at FT Benning,GA in Jan 73 going through the IOAC. My first wife, a very capable RN, drove through the 20” of snow to get me to Martin Army Hospital. That was normal driving for us as I was from NY. She was from Omaha, NE.I do not recall people in a panic then.

I live in Atlanta anyway

I would blame the forecasters who were predicting early on that this system would cover a narrow swath to the south and miss Atlanta completely.

while I agree with all that.. sorry i saw SO MANY HORRIBLE drivers with Ga plates Tue, many many many stupid decisions or actions by the drivers themselves that made it that much worse...

I agree the truckers really screwed up a LOT of traffic... especially on CCP just before i20.
