It's no secret that smoking causes lung cancer. But what about diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, erectile dysfunction? Fifty years into the war on smoking, scientists still are adding diseases to the long list of cigarettes' harms - even as the government struggles to get more people to kick the habit.

A new report from the U.S. Surgeon General's office says the nation is at a crossroads, celebrating decades of progress against the chief preventable killer but not yet poised to finish the job.

My thoughts exactly. Reconciling the draconian Nazi tactics used against tobacco users with our sudden newfound fondness for recreational pot use is gonna be REEEEEEEAL interesting.

Just reword the warnings on the cig packs. That will solve the problem.

Second, isn’t pot smoked? And it’s now legal in some places.
Wonder if the FDA checks it of mold count and other items?.

“Seems to me, we’d have designer-cloned replacement lungs by now if they hadn’t gone all Health Nazi on us.”

Good point. With the Trillions already spent world wide on the “War on Drugs”, they probably could have found a cure for addiction by now.

But then nobody would be getting rich from drug sales, government blank checks and seizures.

I’d like to see the tobacco companies call the government’s
bluff.

If I were say, the President of R.J. Reynolds, I would go on
tv tomorrow and say, “we are very ashamed of producing a
product that is so deadly, so, we would like to announce
that thirty days from today’s date, we are going to stop the
production and sales of our products in the US.”

Politicians heads would be exploding all over Washington
and every state capital.

Do you think Congress would pass a law ordering them to
continue selling the products?

Mike

Try suggesting that the sale of tobacco be banned and you would be truly surprised at the heads that would explode, other that politicians. The anti-smoking/anti-smoker cartel members go into cardiac arrest at any such suggestion - they make just as much as the politicians and have no desire to lose any of their $$$$.

Additionally they would be the first ones screaming for a law forcing the continued sale of tobacco products. I was told just that on more than one occasion - by the same people pushing for increased taxes and bans on where the products can be used.

I don’t smoke and don’t care to be around it but all this banning of things is really getting out of control. Why won’t they go after the real killer, alcohol? How many people are killed by drunk drivers every year? How many die of alcohol related illnesses? When you smoke, generally you aren’t hurting anyone but yourself. If you drink, you have the potential to hurt or kill an innocent family when you jump in the car to drive home from the bar.

But what about diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, erectile dysfunction?

I developed rheumatoid arthritis two years after I quit. Also a few other autoimmune problems. For some, smoking is self-medication.

What is their point?

Wait, it's right there on Page 1803 of The Glorious for-the-Pipples Affordable Care Act:

"Deaths resulting from non-government approved causes shall result in denial of any survivors' benefits and repayment to the government by the decedent's estate of any prior government-issued payments to said decedent during his or her lifetime."

But how can you believe any of the new "discoveries"? They're probably as legitimate as all the "discoveries" where they discover that, shockingly, global warming IS real, it IS caused by humans, and the only thing that can fix it is to raise taxes, kill all Republicans and cede all power to the goobermint.

Not nearly as many as you think. THOSE numbers are cooked too, by those ridiculous hags at MADD and the government lackeys go right along with it.

“1964: The surgeon general declares that cigarette smoking increases deaths.

2014: About 20.8 million people in the U.S. have died from smoking-related diseases since then, a toll the report puts at 10 times the number of Americans who have died in all of the nation’s wars combined.”

That’s about 1/3 as many as have died from Roe V Wade.

Meddling nanny state communist governments killed more than
ten times as many of their own people in the 20th century.

They don't bother with that silly old document anymore.

They just do what they want.
