"Yes, $48 billion," LaHood said. "I'm very proud, Neil, that while I was at DOT, we spent $48 billion. We put 65,000 people to work doing 15,000 projects. You never heard any bad stories about the money being misspent."

Lieing sack of pig shit! I can have photos posted in a matter of minutes that show a strip of 3 miles of highway they decided to waste Millions on with landscaping brick/stone on curbing, a new sidewalk on both sides of the road and lights to illuminate the road in an area that is NOT RESIDENCIAL. Just outside a town of 5,000 people. Meanwhile they let the bridge in town that people need to cross to get to work fall apart.

Shovel Ready? You bet. Shoveled Millions right into one contractors pocket. Out of Area contractor even. No doubt a few dollars were "kicked back".

Last year I spent over $80,000 on diesel fuel. Of that, $8,400 was FUEL TAX.

They won’t fix roads with it, but they will spend billions on new way to track your every mile of driving SO THEY CAN TAX YOU PER MILE.

I was relieved when La Hood left DOT. Now he’s back. What a POS.

'Let's Raise the Gas Tax'

That right! The economy is on a ventilator. I think a baseball bat will finish it off.

Hey Secretary Einstein. So you raise the gas tax because people aren't driving enough. And then they will budget their driving even more to avoid paying more in gas.

What a genius! /sarcasm snort

Don’t forget that Obama said before ever elected his goal(besides single payer healthcare) was to get the price of gasoline up to $5 p/gal, or more, to get the public in favor of alternative fuel.

So much for shovel ready. A trillion here and a trillion there for our “crumbling” infrastructure and still liberals complain.

It sounds like the guy is being paid to shill for the construction industry.

We have spent a fortune on roads during the Obama years. I live in the less populated part of Ohio, and it seems like every little bridge on every backwater state route has been rebuilt over the last few years.

They have caused me a whole bunch of traffic delays due to the rebuilding of bridges that worked perfectly well before construction began.

Prior to Obama, the liberals hated the idea of road construction; now, it's all they ever talk about. I don't care about the (R) next to his name, he's a liberal.

Heh...Pennsylvania just raised its gas tax by .28 a gallon, courtesy of RINO Tom Corbett and his RINO gang of merry thieves.

This is my wonderful PA Republican governor’s latest smack in the face answer as well. Can’t wait to go out and convince people to vote republican after that nice big gas tax hike. Just when we thought prices couldn’t get much higher. It’s for all the crap Obama’s 2 shovel ready stimulus were supposed to pay for.

Lower the price of gas by increasing production and consumption will go up.

After constructing a sea of gallows to be erected on Capitol Hill there will be a lot of action for shovels.

Under the guise of a penny saved....here’s an idea—repeal the Davis-Bacon Act and abolish the racist and job killing prevailing wage. The cost of public works projects, including and especially road maintenance and construction, would drop by a third or more.

BTW...I’ll bet the increases in the PW has far outpaced inflation....
