The U.S. Chamber of Commerce throws down the gauntlet to Tea Party
American Thinker ^ | 01/09/2014 | Rick Moran

Tom Donohue, president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, gave his annual "State of American Business" speech and didn't pull any punches toward the Tea Party.

Claiming he wasn't "attacking" the Tea Party, going so far as claiming that they agree with many Tea Party positions, Donohue nevertheless made it clear which side of the GOP civil war he's on.

The Hill:

"In primaries and in the general election, we will support candidates who want to work within the legislative process to solve the nation's problems and who understand that business is not the problem, business is a big part of the solution," he said during his annual State of American Business address.

The Chamber is a political juggernaut that spends millions of dollars on television ads, and its endorsements are often decisive in congressional races.

The group reported more than $32 million in independent expenditures during the 2012 election cycle, making it one of the biggest political spenders in the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

But while the Chamber has long been an election force, it is looking to be more aggressive in spending money in party primaries.

That's thanks to last year's government shutdown, which exasperated business groups and other traditional allies of the GOP. Now groups like the Chamber are making plans to oppose Tea Party upstarts.

Print this headline multiple times on a sheet of paper. Canvas your local businesses for COC members. Walk in and hand them the headline and walk out.

The National Federation of Independent Business is the conservative alternative to the Chamber of Commerce. NFIB led the fight against ObaMaoCare while the CoC was pimping for amnesty.

I suggest the next time Obama and the Liberals want to raise the corporate income tax that the Tea Party support the proposal. The GOP Establishment likes to say that Taxes are simply passed on in the price of the product, don’t believe it, there is a maximum cost the product can bear. Corporate American was, and is, a major contributor to the “success” of the Demcrap Regime.
The increase in my taxes do not get passed on and increase my revenue stream ... though it is true for government workers.

I saw this guy on Fox pushing amnesty. Basically he said if a conservative wins by running against amnesty in a primary, they will support the democrat.

The GOP needs to get over their attitude that taxes at the top are the only taxes that matter.

Its time to ease the burden of the middle class. Cut the income tax, cut payroll taxes, cut the taxes on manufactured products. If the middle class is growing and earning more, they’ll be buying more.

These people no longer represent small businessmen who believe in free enterprise and that the best thing government can do is stay out of the way.

Instead, the Chamber of Corrupted Commerce wants to use government to carve out their turf, protect them from competition where possible, and get government handouts.

They are no longer allies of conservatives. They are part of the Big Government/Big Labor/Big Business Empire.

In short, they have gone over to the dark side.

Small business is dying. This is like the AMA supporting obamacare in the name of doctors. Small business is not aided by socialism.

Had a Tea Party person throw this one at me. I am running for a seat on the City Council and have been associated with the local Chamber of Commerce for years. While I am a conservative Republican, I am up against a Democrat, a Tea Partier, and a guy who claims to be a Conservative Republican, but who we have on good report voted for Obama, twice.

Anyway, the accuser was quite vexed when I pointed out that the local Chamber of Commerce has absolutely no affiliation with the national Chamber of Commerce. His mouth silently opened and closed like a codfish a few times and he turned and walked away.

Seems the local Tea Party has ginned up opposition to the local Chamber based on the stupid positions the national chamber occasionally takes. Forget that the vast majority of the members of the local chamber are conservative Republicans.

Idiots.

I wonder how many members they lose before the primaries.

What a bunch of self-absorbed jerks in politics and the higher realms of business too, apparently.

It should come as no surprise that the CofC is in bed w/ govern., they're paid their $32MUSD and they expect a payback on their "investment".

bohner & mcconnell et al will make sure they get it.

“Isn’t that how the Tea Party functions as well...within the bounds of the legislative and Constitutional processes?”

What the Chamber of Communist is saying, Donohue can't control the Tea Party Americans elected to office in Washington, so they are going to support Communist Stooges they (the Chamber of Communist) can control and keep in their back pockets!

Stay safe my fellow American!

These people in the COC are fascist more than anything. Their relationship with the government overlords is parasitic for both entities and this is very dangerous for the country as no one in Washington gives a damn about the country, just getting rich off of it’s destruction if need be.

Increasingly I am to the point of believing the country is beyond repair as it is so corrupt top to bottom and voting increasingly means absolutely nothing as there is no choice of distinction only the price tag of each party. When it comes crashing down, and it will the question is do we get a once in a thousand years shot at a republic or the usual totalitarian state in it’s place. The odds are against us and I greatly fear for my children’s future.

“Anyway, the accuser was quite vexed when I pointed out that the local Chamber of Commerce has absolutely no affiliation with the national Chamber of Commerce.”

To say “the local Chamber of Commerce has absolutely no affiliation with the national Chamber of Commerce” is inaccurate and false in many cases. Each local Chamber of Commerce decides whether or not it chooses to affiliate itself with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce by seeking membership and accreditation with that organization.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says:

About the U.S. Chamber
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business organization representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions. Our members range from mom-and-pop shops and local chambers to leading industry associations and large corporations. They all share one thing in common—they count on the Chamber to be their voice in Washington, D.C.

Join the Chamber

Membership Levels for Local and State Chambers of Commerce
https://www.uschamber.com/chambers/join

So it can be seen that any local Chamber of Commerce can and they often do affiliate themselves with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce by becoming members of that organization.

It may be an appropriate time to persuade each local Chamber of Commerce it is time to withdraw their membership in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce until such time as the attacks upon the TEA Party, its members, and its political planks are ceased or reversed to support.

""In primaries and in the general election, we will support candidates who want to work within the legislative process to solve the nation's problems and who understand that business is not the problem, business is a big part of the solution,"

In what way does that contradict Tea Partiers?

It sounds like Ted Cruz (though he would say it in a less boring fashion).
